Over 200 million users will follow BCN2013 live on social networks

The first social media FINA World Championships will take place in Barcelona this summer. Event organizers will offer an unprecedented coverage on different social networks, aiming to disseminate the information and message of BCN2013. 

Twelve professionals and 36 volunteers form part of the team that will turn Barcelona 2013 into the first social media FINA World Championships in history.

As reflected in the social media plan of BCN2013, one of the main objectives of the Organizing Committee is to spread the message of the World Championships (19 July to 4 August) and encourage sports fans to tell stories about the major sporting events in 140 characters. 

Besides the Twitter account, #bcn2013, and the official Facebook page and Youtube channel, event organizers will provide specific twitter accounts for each aquatic sport, including swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, water polo, high diving and open water swimming (hash tags and accounts are listed below).

In cooperation with Orange, Barcelona Contactless and the Barcelona City Council, event organizers have created an application for the Barcelona 2013 World Championships (BCN2013).

According to Andreu Ballesteros, Social Media Manager of BCN2013, “Barcelona is the world capital of mobile phones and we are facing a unique opportunity to prove our level of commitment to the world.” Ballesteros, who calculates that over 200 million users will follow BCN2013 on the social networks, underlined the unconditional help of the many volunteers: “Without their help, it would have been impossible to organize this social media project.”
