ESPY Awards Go to Phelps, Frankin & Long

LOS ANGELES, California, July 17. A trio of swimmers earned ESPY Awards tonight at the all-star gala held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Calif.

Olympic superstar Michael Phelps, who finished his swimming career with 18 gold medals and 22 overall with a stunning effort at the 2012 London Olympics, was named the Best Male U.S. Olympian of the Year. He also collected Best Record-Breaking Performance honors at the ceremony.

Phelps also made some noise on the red carpet by showing up with Golf Channel personality Win McMurry as his date. The two made a dashing couple with Phelps in a dapper suite and McMurry sporting a form-fitting red dress.

Missy Franklin, who is currently in Spain as part of the Team USA trip to the World Championships, accomplished a swimmer sweep of the Olympian awards by taking home the Best Female U.S. Olympian award for her four gold medals in London.

Finally, Jessica Long took home the trophy for Best Female Athlete With A Disability after setting two world records and winning eight medals, five golds, at the 2012 Paralympic Games.
