Barcelona 2013: The 15th FINA World Championships Underway

BARCELONA, SPAIN--The 15th World Championships tonight official opened its 17-day run (July 19-August 4) in Barcelona. The first day of competition is tomorrow. 

 

This year's Worlds features 6 disciplines: Swimming, Open Water, Diving, Synchro, Water Polo, and (for the first time) High Diving. The first half of the championships features the competitions in Open Water, Diving, Synchro, and the start of Water Polo.

 

The second half features Swimming, High Diving and the conclusion of Water Polo.

Competition dates and venues by discipline are:

  -Swimming--July 28-August 4, 2013
   --venue: Palau Sant Jordi

  -Open Water--July 20, 22, 23, 25 & 27
   --venue: Moll de la Fusta

  -Diving--July 20-28
   --Montjuic Municipal pool

  -Synchro--July 20-27
   --venue: Palau Sant Jordi

  -Water Polo--July 21-August 3
  (in July: women on odd days, men on even days; switches in August)
   --venue: Bernat Picornell pools (were the '92 Olympics swam)

  -High Diving--July 29-31
   --venue: Moll de la Fusta
