Canada’s Pamela Ware advances to final one-metre at world championships

 

 

 

BARCELONA –Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., competed for the first time in two years on women’s one-metre and placed sixth in Sunday’s preliminaries in diving action at the FINA World Championships.

 

 

 

He Zi of China, the 2007 world champion,  posted the top score with 287.70 points, Tania Cagnotto of Italy was second at 284.85 and Han Wang of China was third at 284.00. 

 

 

 

Ware, a bronze medallist Saturday on three-metre synchro with Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., totaled 261.45.  In her last one-metre competition at the 2011 Junior Pan Am Championships in Colombia she won the gold medal.

 

 

 

On Sunday, she delivered a solid performance except for her fourth dive in which she he hit her hand on the board attempting a reverse two and half.  She earned 4.5’s and 5.0’s from the judges.

 

 

 

‘’That one scared me a bit but it’s a dive I know I can do well,’’ said Ware, 20, who was not injured.  ‘’My take off was very good so I’m hopeful I can climb up in the standings if I do it better in the final.  I’m not surprised to do this well on one-metre, it’s very similar to my three-metre except adapted for the lower board.’’

 

 

 

Diving competition continues Monday with the prelims and final for women’s 10-m synchro featuring Olympic bronze medallists Roseline Filion of Laval and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal.

 

 

 

The women’s one-metre final is Tuesday.
