Breaststroke Rules Unchanged at FINA Technical Swimming Congress

FINA Technical Swimming Congress and Extraordinary Master Congress Held in Barcelona

BARCELONA, SPAIN--FINA held a Swimming Technical Congress (TC) this morning and an Extraordinary Masters Congress this afternoon both in Barcelona. FINA has issues brief reports on both of these meetings; including a portion of the outcomes from each.
 

Reported from the FINA Swimming Technical Congress are:


 -World Records will now be recognized for long course, 400, mixed relays (medley and free). Note: splits from these relays cannot be used for records or entry purposes.


 -World Records will now be recognized for short course 200 relays.


 -Breaststroke rules related to the start and turn will remain as they are currently in the rulebook.

Reported from the FINA Masters Extraordinary Congress are:


 -changes to World Record and Top-10 approvals


 -for Open Water, water temperature must be between 18° and 31° Celsius


 -for Water Polo, at the Masters Worlds a player cannot represent more than one team


 -for Synchro, adjustments to judging, and minimum age moved from 20 to 25 years old.
