Three disciplines at the 2013 World Championships wrapped-up
BARCELONA, SPAIN--Three disciplines at the 2013 World Championships wrapped-up competition over the weekend in Barcelona: Open Water, Diving and Synchro. On Saturday, Open Water finished up with the 25K races, which saw 35 males and 22 females swim. Both races had close finishes, with Germany's Thomas Lurz (men) and Italy's Martina Grimaldi (women) finishing first. It was the fourth medal, in four races, for Lurz. Top-5 finishers in the 25Ks were:
Men's 25K:

3) Evegenii Drattcev, Russia--4:47:28.1
4) Alex Meyer, USA--4:47:28.2

In Synchro, the finish order was Russia-China-Spain-Ukraine-Japan, save the 3 events China did not swim (those with more than two swimmers) where the order remains just without China. Final Synchro medal standings for the 2013 Worlds is:
1. Russia (7) -- 7 gold
2. China (4) -- 4 silver
3. Spain (7) -- 0 g, 3 s, 4 b
4. Ukraine (3) -- 3 bronze

In Water Polo, over the weekend Elimination play. The previous week's Preliminary pool play determined seeding of the teams in the Elimination play, which began Saturday for the women's tournament and yesterday (Sunday) for the men's tournament. From this weekend's play, 9th-16th places have been determined.
In the Women's tournament, 9th-16th places are: China (9th), Italy (10th), Kazakhstan (11th), New Zealand (12th), Great Britain (13th), Brazil (14th), South Africa (15th) and Uzbekistan (16th).
In the Men's tournament, 9th-16th places are: USA (9th), Germany (10th), Canada (11th), Kazakhstan (12th), Romania (13th), China (14th), South Africa (15th) and New Zealand (16th).
Remaining in Women's play are: Australia, Canada, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Russia, Spain and USA.
Remaining in Men's play are: Australia, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Serbia and Spain.

Through Sunday, the 2013 World Championships have seen 9 of 16 competition days. The championships remaining 2 disciplines also started: Swimming (40 events; July 29-August 4) and High Diving (2 events; July 29-31).
