INDIANAPOLIS -More than 200 athletes from the U.S., Canada and Japan are set to compete at the U.S. Masters Synchronized Swimming National Championships, Oct. 16-20, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Swimmers in six age groups (20-29s to 70-79s) will compete for national titles in solo, duet, trio, team, combo and figures at West Mesa Aquatic Center.

"Duke City Aquatics is very excited to host this event and bring elite level synchronized swimmers to New Mexico," said Janet Lyon-Huffman, program director for Duke City Aquatics and meet manager.

"Albuquerque is proud to host the 2013 U.S. Masters Synchronized Swimming National Championships. This event is unique for our area, and I encourage locals to attend and see the work that goes into making a national synchronized swimming champion," said Dan Ballou, director of sports marketing for the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau. "This is another in a long line of championship sports events that the ACVB has been able to bring to Albuquerque."

West Mesa Aquatic Center is the newest aquatic facility in Albuquerque and has hosted many high school and elite level competitions in swimming, diving and water polo. West Mesa also has hosted national training teams over the last few years, including Japan's Olympic swimming team and the Olympic men's and women's water polo squads from Canada and Hungary.
