Phelps Hosts Under Armour Experience in China…
Under Armour athlete and ambassador Michael Phelps visited China for thegrand opening event of the new Under Armour Experience in Shanghai, the first of its kind retail environment, alongside Founder and CEO Kevin Plank. The experience, at the Jing An Kerry Centre, uses a series of vignettes shot with 360-degree camera technology and is displayed on a 270-degree screen to boldly capture and bring to life individual moments that define the will of an athlete. Phelps hosted the film portion of the experience, designed to build long-standing relationships by empowering Chinese athletes and placing consumers in the middle of the brand’s high-energy commercials.
Octagon Signs Top-Ranked Snowboarder…
Justin Reiter, North America’s #1 ranked parallel slalom snowboard racer and 10-year member of the U.S. Snowboard Team, has signed with Octagon. Widely regarded as a favorite to medal at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Reiter has positioned himself well following his second place finish at the 2013 FIS World Championships in Stoneham, Quebec. Having narrowly missed the 2010 Olympic Games due to reconstructive knee surgery, the 12-time National Champion Reiter has been living entirely out of his truck since summer 2013 in an effort to fully concentrate on achieving his ultimate dream, an Olympic Gold medal.
Van Captures National Title…
World Champion ski jumper Lindsey Van added to her impressive resume by claiming her 16th career U.S. National Ski Jumping title. Van edged out ten-time national champion Jessica Jerome for first place in the normal hill (90 meter) jump. Lake Placid was a fitting victory for Van because it has both a deep Olympic history and personal roots; Van moved to Lake Placid for two years as a teenager to train with coach Larry Stone. Van and The Visa Team will make seven World Cup stops and participate in the U.S. Olympic Trials prior to the start of the 2014 Sochi Games.
Coughlin Gives Dried Plums a Boost…
12-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin is giving the dried plum industry a boost through her work as the spokesperson for the California Dried Plum Board. Coughlin has always been an advocate for dried plums, as she spoke with ABC30 Fresno News about her personal experiences with the fruit for training and competition purposes as well as her role in traveling across the U.S. discussing plums’ nutritional value and recipe versatility. Through Coughlin’s celebrity status, Olympic credentials and healthy lifestyle, the California dried plum industry is expecting increased growth by reaching a wider consumer base.
Raisman Hosts Lung Cancer Awareness Charity Event…
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman hosted the Winning Together- Meeting the Challenges of Lung Cancer Gala in Weston, MA this past weekend. The event, in honor of Raisman’s grandmother and her mission to make a difference in the lives of future lung cancer patients, was created to foster progress in the fight against the disease. The gala celebration benefitted United Against Lung Cancer, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to funding and supporting new research initiatives and raising awareness to find a cure for lung cancer.
Shields Breaks American Record…
USA Swimming National Team member and Butterfly specialist, Tom Shields, lowered his own American record on his way to the men’s 100m fly victory at theFINA World Cup stop in Doha, Qatar. Considered an upset, Shields bested top-ranked butterfly swimmer Chad le Clos with a time of 48.80, beating his previous record swim time of 49.01 that took place in Berlin this summer. Shields looks to build off of his Doha performance and finish strong at the three remaining World Cup stops this year.

Olympian Gwen Jorgensen was showcased as a panelist in The Rise of the Run in Triathlon Google Hangout with fellow triathlete Kevin Collington and Olympic running coach Bobby McGee. Jorgensen was chosen to participate in large part for her success and expertise in running. The live show, presented byTriathlon Research, was geared to offer valuable insights and information for today’s up-and-coming triathletes and other professionals on how to turn the run into the strongest leg of a triathlon. Panel members also reflected on past accomplishments and provided viewers with tips on how to build their personal brands and increase success in their athletic careers.
