Pan American Sports Festival approved by PASO is scheduled for September 2014
The Pan American Sports Festival was approved by PASO and is scheduled to take place from September 20-23, 2014.
A venue for the aquatics events has not been designated yet. It could be Guadalajara, Mexico City or Veracruz.
PASO will pay for 7 days of food, travel and lodging expenses for athletes, officials and coaches. They will also sponsor a coaches and officials clinic during that time frame.
The numbers they approved are very similar to those approved for participation in the Pan American Games.
I have suggested for PASO to use the same summons for each discipline that was in place for the 2011 Pan American Games and adjust it to fit the needs of the Festival (with the assistance of UANA and its technical committees).
The disciplines and the number of athletes that were approved for participation are:
Swimming = 280 athletes (equally divided between men and women)
Diving = 60 athletes (equally divided between men and women)
Marathon Open Water Swimming = 36 athletes (equally divided between men and women)
Synchro = 30 athletes
Officials = 44 ( they will have to bring local officials to assist with the Festival)
The information that has been provided by PASO has been minimal and slow in coming out.
I will keep you informed about any new developments.
Aside from the obvious late planning and distribution of information by PASO, please let me know your thoughts and concerns.
Please continue to make the world a better place; enjoy life with loved ones and have glorious day!
Ciao,
Fernando
