FINA posts Swimming qualifying system for 2015 World Championships:  qualifying starts this weekend

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND--On February 18, FINA sent the national federations the qualifying system for the Swimming portion of the 2015 World Championships. The system will again include A and B time standards, as well as a year-and-a-half qualifying window in which to achieve a time at a designated meet. A summary of the qualifying system is below.


--QUALIFYING WINDOW--
The qualifying window for the 2015 Worlds is Saturday, March 1, 2014 through Monday, July 20, 2015.

Note: This is the Monday before the 2015 Worlds Swimming competition starts on Friday, July 24, 2015. Also, July 20 is in the middle of the 2015 Pan American Games; however, the Swimming portion of those Games is
planned to be completed before the qualifying window closes.


--MEET APPROVAL--
Meets should apply to be a qualifying meet prior to the meet occurring.  All meet have until the end of this year (December 31, 2014) to apply.  All qualifying meets must have referees and starters from a valid FINA

--ENTRY LIMITS--

  -A nation may enter up to 2 swimmers per individual event, and 1 relay per relay event.

  -For a nation to enter 2 swimmers in an individual event, both swimmers must meet the A time standard in the event.

  -If a nation wishes to enter 1 swimmer per individual event, a swimmer need only have the B time standard in the event.

  -A nation with 3 swimmers with qualifying times may enter a fourth swimmer without qualifying times, provided that with the addition the nation has both male and female swimmers entered.

  -A nation with 2 or less swimmers with qualifying times may enter up to a total of 4 swimmers, provided that no more than 2 are male and 2 are female.

  -A swimmer entered without qualifying times must have swam at their nation's national championships or an approved qualifying meet.

  -A swimmer entered without qualifying times will be allowed to enter up to 2 events each, but cannot be entered in the same event as another swimmer from their nation.
