Welcome to Doha
It is my great pleasure to present you the 3rd FINA World Aquatics Convention, to be organised from 29 November – 1 December 2014 in Doha (QAT).
For the first time, this important gathering will be organised in conjunction with our main sportive event of the year, the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), scheduled on 3 – 7 December also in the capital of Qatar. This new strategy will reinforce the value of the two events, and will strengthen the connection between our competitions and all those involved in the promotion of Aquatics on a worldwide scale.
Our 204 National Member Federations must feel part of a strong organisation, FINA. Therefore, the FINA World Aquatics Convention is a privileged opportunity to evaluate and discuss the development of our Aquatic sports in the five continents, and to suggest, by a common exchange of points of view, further ways of progress.
The FINA World Aquatics Convention also aims at establishing strategies and business opportunities for the future, in order to define and implement the best possible approach to enhance the image of our sport.
The success of the first two editions in 2010 in Punta del Este (URU) and 2012 in Moscow (RUS), the positive feedback from the participants and the interest already generated by the 2014 rendezvous are a guarantee that the creation of this Convention was both useful and important.
Aquatics is a pillar of the Olympic Movement and has a privileged status in the sport international market. Its prestige and excellence are trademarks of the FINA activities in all fields of action: elite competitions, masters movement, development platforms, fight against doping, or youth programmes.
On FINA’s behalf, I thank all the delegates, lecturers, exhibitors, official Partners, supporters and suppliers, Organisers and Bidders of FINA events, and all the members of the IOC and FINA Family for their active support in making the Convention an achievement.
My gratitude also goes to all the Qatari authorities and the Qatar Swimming Association for their commitment and assistance in the organisation of this Convention.
I therefore invite you all to attend the 3rd FINA World Aquatics Convention. Your presence will make FINA stronger and the Aquatic Sports more important worldwide!
