US Junior National Team members win gold in duet, team
 
 
HENDERSON, Nev. -  U. S.  Junior National Team members won gold medals in duet and team last week as the 2014 U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships concluded Saturday night at the Heritage Park Aquatic Complex.

Team USA members Anita Alvarez and Sandra Ortellado scored 152.7530 points in the junior duet final Friday to win gold.Teresa Alonso and Yulieth Barreto of Mexico finished second at 147.4893, and Danielle Emma and Alexandra Meredith-Le Roux of the Santa Clara Aquamaids were third at 143.3125.

The U.S. Junior National Team also won the junior team title, finishing with 154.1140 points. Santa Clara (145.2640) took silver, and Mexico (143.9795) won bronze. The U.S. team included: Alvarez (Kenmore, N.Y.), Ortellado (Walnut Creek, Calif.), Claire Barton (Los Gatos, Calif.), Gillian Brassil (Moraga, Calif.), Rachel Hyon (Cypress, Calif.), Isabel Malcolmson (San Jose, Calif.), Noelle St. John (Dublin, Ohio), Karensa Tjoa (San Jose, Calif.), Monica Velazquez-Stiak (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Elizabeth Wiita (Vancouver, Wash.)

In Saturday's senior finals, Elizabeth Davidson won the solo event, scoring 160.1234 points, followed by Rebecca Moody, who took silver with 159.5620 points. Italy's Giorgio Minisini was third at 157.0727. Both Davidson and Moody have U.S. national squad experience.

Pairs from Japan, Colombia and Aruba went 1-2-3 in the senior duet. The California Stars won the senior team event with 138.8740 points. The St. Paul Stars were second at 133.0935.

 
Mexico (82.0333) won the combo, followed by Santa Clara (78.9333) and Canada's BC Aquasonics (76.5333).
 
Mexico's Teresa Alonso won the junior solo at 148.5560. Santa Clara's Phoebe Coffin (143.6071) and Town of Tonawanda's Natalia Vega (143.5452) were a close 1-2.
 
The Riverside Aquettes' Subin Cho, Rachel Warren and Courtney Vincent won the junior trio with 140.4980 points, edging Santa Clara's Michelle Roysental, Stephanie Thielemann and Nicolas Joy Schmidt (140.3833). Alexa Barrett, Jacqueline Justice and Quinn Connor of the Cincinnati Synchrogators were third at 136.7282.
