FINA moves 2014 Junior Open Water Worlds

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND--Due to its unstable regional situation, FINA has moved the 2nd Junior Open Water Worlds from Israel and a week later. The event is now scheduled for September 5-7 in Lake Balaton in Hungary.  It was originally scheduled for August 28-30 in Eilat, Israel.

Please be informed that due to the unstable and unpredictable situation in the region, the FINA Bureau unanimously decided the cancellation of the 2nd FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships that were scheduled to take place in the city of Eilat (ISR) from August 28-30, 2014.

This exceptional decision was also dictated by notes of concern from various FINA National Member Federations related to the security of their athletes and officials.

Following the FINA Bureau decision, the 2nd FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships has been reallocated to the City of Balatonfüred – Lake of Balaton (HUN) from September 5-7, 2014.

FINA thanks all its National Federations for their continuous support and understanding, and is looking forward to a very successful second edition of the FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.

Divided in two age groups (14-16 years and 17-18 years), boys and girls will take the plunge in races of 5km for the youngest category and 7.5km for the oldest.

Apart from individual events, a 3km Team Event composed of three swimmers is also organised for both age categories.
