USA Synchro Establishes High-Performance Chair in Honor of Charlotte Davis
Indianapolis, IN, August 11, 2014
USA Synchro is excited to announce the establishment of the Charlotte Davis Chair for USA Synchro's High Performance Program. Davis, the first U.S. Olympic synchronized swimming coach, led Traci Ruiz and Candy Costie to gold medals in the 1984 Olympic Games and has been instrumental in the growth and success of the sport. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2014.
The Chair is made possible by funding from Tomima Edmark, President and Founder of Andra Group, which is the parent company of HerRoom.com and HisRoom.com. HerRoom is the largest woman-owned online retailer of lingerie and swimwear.
Her generous donation of one million dollars is the largest single individual donation USA Synchro has ever received. Charlotte Davis coached Edmark in synchronized swimming in the Seattle area and had a lasting impact. Confidence and the willingness to work hard, lessons learned from synchronized swimming, have led to Edmark's extraordinary success in business.
Now Edmark wants to give back to the sport that did so much for her. "I'd love to see U.S. Synchronized Swimming back on top," said Edmark. "I hope this donation allows more girls and young women to compete at the highest level, and helps the U.S. team be medal winners again." Her investment in USA Synchro exemplifies the value of participating in sport. The awards of youth are soon forgotten, but the lessons learned from the disciplined approach to the pursuit of excellence last a lifetime.
U.S. Synchronized Swimming [USSS], also known as USA Synchro, was established in 1979 as a nonprofit organization and is the United States national governing body for the sport. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the United States Olympic Committee and FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur) - the international governing federation.
