The 2014 edition of FINA's major annual swimming event, the FINA/MASTBANK Swimming World Cup, kicked off today, August 27, at Doha's magnificent Hamad Aquatic Centre, Qatar. The big names of the international swimming elite will gather to compete in seven meets for a short-course high-level contest taking place in some of the world's most thrilling cities. With the upcoming 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) to be held on December 3-7 in Doha, the FINA/MASTBANK Swimming World Cup is the best opportunity for up-and-coming swimming stars from all over the world, including 2013 World Cup winners Chad Le Clos (RSA) and Katinka Hosszu (HUN, pictured above with Tunisia's Oussama Mellouli), to race their closest challengers and produce eye-opening performances. A total 36 swimming events make the competition programme (17 in women's and men's category, plus two mixed relay events). Don't miss the action! Youth Water Polo (W): USA, Greece, Spain and Canada secure top spot after Day 2 |

In Group A, USA is unchallenged so far, claiming victories over Hungary (14-9) and South Africa (20-4). Hungary and South Africa each registered one win while Germany totals two losses so far. In Group B, Greece edges Italy for top spot for now due to the better goal average. Both squads registered a tie (9-9) in their encounter on Day 1. Japan took third spot after defeating fourth-placed Brazil 22-4 yesterday. Host Spain sits atop the Group C standings, crushing Puerto Rico 26-4 on the opening night and finishing on a tie 6-6 with the Netherlands on Day 2. China crushed Puerto Rico 22-11, securing third spot so far. Finally, in Group D, Canada currently edges runner-up Russia by goal average. Australia faced pressure from both Canada and Russia, losing by just one goal: 6-7 and 8-9, respectively. Day 3 was brighter for Australia as it beat New Zealand 15-8. |

The last day of preliminaries is underway at Madrid's M-86 swimming centre where the world's rising water polo women's talents are fighting for top honours. Following Day 2's action, USA, Greece, Spain and Canada currently top their respective group.
