USA Swimming Sets Roster for 2014 FINA Short Course World Championships

Thirty-seven swimmers to represent Team USA on Dec. 3-7 in Doha, Qatar

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Eighteen Olympians, including individual gold medalists Tyler Clary (Riverside, Calif.), Natalie Coughlin (Vallejo, Calif.), Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.), will lead the Team USA roster for the 2014 FINA Swimming World Championships (25m) – set for Dec. 3-7 in Doha, Qatar – USA Swimming announced today. 

Additional U.S. Olympic gold medalists named to the roster include Claire Donahue (Lenoir City, Tenn.), Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.), Cullen Jones(Irvington, N.J.), Breeja Larson (Mesa, Ariz.), Matt McLean (Sterling, Va.), Nick Thoman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Shannon Vreeland (Overland Park, Kan.).

In total, 37 Americans – 20 women and 17 men – will compete in Doha. The complete U.S. roster for the 2014 FINA Swimming World Championships (25m) can be found at  usaswimming.org. 

Lochte is expected to compete in a team-high six individual events (200m free, 200m back, 50m and 100m fly, and 100m and 200m IM), while Clary is slated for five individual races (200m back; 200m fly; 100m, 200m and 400m IM).

On the women’s side, two-time Olympian Elizabeth Beisel (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Melanie Margalis (Clearwater, Fla.) are scheduled to swim four individual events each.

In addition, two-time Olympians Katie Hoff (Towson, Md.) and Amanda Weir (Lawrenceville, Ga.) will represent the U.S. internationally for the first time since the 2011 FINA World Championships and 2012 Olympic Games, respectively. A three-time Olympian and gold medalist for South Africa, Darian Townsend (Phoenix, Ariz.) will compete for Team USA for the first time internationally after becoming a U.S. citizen earlier this year.

Additional Olympians named to the roster include Cammile Adams (Cypress, Texas), Jimmy Feigen (San Antonio, Texas) and Caitlin Leverenz(Tucson, Ariz.).

The 12th FINA Swimming World Championships (25m) will be contested over five days at the Hamad Aquatic Center in Doha. Forty-six events (34 individual and 12 relays) are slated for the competition program, and a total of 138 medals will be up for grabs. Complete event information can be found at  FINA.org.
