ABOUT TRYOUTS

Skaters are evaluated and placed on teams according to their skating skills displayed at tryouts, past synchro experience, USFS tests and age requirements determined by USFS for specific team levels. Skaters should expect to know their team placement during the week of March 11th, 2024.  Skater team commitment contracts must be signed and returned with appropriate commitment fees by March 30th, 2024.

Skaters should come to the tryouts wearing:

  • Black skating leggings
  • Fitted or semi-fitted top and skating jacket (preferably black)
  • Hair pulled back neatly into a ponytail or bun

It is important to come dressed appropriately for tryouts so that the coaches can properly evaluate your skills and potential for the team.

ONCE YOU ARE SELECTED AND COMMIT TO A TEAM

The synchronized skating season starts with Spring Training in April and May 2024.

For teams based in the Prince William rink, the season continues in August with the Synchronized Choreography camp. Regular practices are on Wednesday evenings for the PW Aspire teams.  For our PW IJS teams, regular practices are on Wednesday evenings and Sunday evenings.  These practices begin in late August and continue through mid-February.

For our Haymarket Aspire teams, Spring Training at the Prince William Ice Center is offered as an option, and regular practices start in late August at the Haymarket Iceplex.

For our Open Adult team, spring training is optional, with regular practices starting in late August.  Practices are held on Sunday evenings at Prince William Ice Center.

Teams practice weekly or twice a week from Late August through February, with the frequency of practices depending on the team level, as stated above. Skaters must also continue their Learn to Skate classes or private lessons for their respective levels throughout the skating season.

All teams attend three to four competitions and two performances per season. A tentative competition and practice schedule is made available at tryouts so that all skaters and their families are aware of upcoming commitment dates.
