WST Families,

Starting tonight, Monday, June 10th all WST swimmers will be practicing in the outdoor pool thru the end of July.   College Swimmers will swim July 29 to August 9.  New Swimmer Evaluations will take place July 29 - 31 and Aug. 5 - 7.  Registration for the 2024 - 2025 season will begin for existing team members early July thru August 11th.  

Also tonight, June 10th 7pm outdoor pool is our parent meeting where we will review the summer session and answer any questions including how to set up email and SMS text messaging for your account.

 

WST ANNUAL LC INVITATIONAL MEET:

This is it, crunch time before the annual WST Long Course Invitational swim meet at Jim Barnett Park outdoor pool this coming weekend June 14 to 16.  Set up for the meet will start Thursday night 7pm during practice setting up all the tents and equipment.  Some swimmers will be helping with setting up tables/chairs and equipment.

The meet will start Friday morning 6am set up, 8:15am start time.  We will run 3 sessions on Friday and 2 sessions per day Saturday and Sunday.

The warmup schedule and timeline will be posted to the meet page as soon as they are approved by VSI.

The THEME for the weekend is the OLYMPICS as USA Swimming Olympic Trials start June 15th in Indianapolis, IN.

If you have not signed up to work the meet or for donations, please do so today.  All donations and volunteer hours at the meet go towards your annual 35 hour volunteer commitment (year round families).  While many families work all 7 sessions, the minimum requirement for this meet is 8 hours (2 sessions) per family.  You can work more but 2 sessions are the minimum.  Our summer session families do not have a volunteer requirement but are asked to help if they can as a timer, meet marshal, concessions etc.  We still have many of the 115 volunteer slots to fill. 

We will have food trucks, t-shirt vendor and Swim and Tri our contracted vendor for all swim supplies including our Arena team swimsuits.    This is a great time to purchase your equipment and try them on at the same time.  They can also ship items after the meet.   All team suits should be of the Arena brand

 

 

 

WANT TO ME AN OFFICIAL???:

If you are interested in becoming an official for the summer league meets we will host a clinic/training on Thursday, June 27th 7pm to 9pm at Jim Barnett Park - meeting room TBD.  SIGN UP AT THIS LINK.  

This is a great way to satisfy your volunteer hours and have the best seat on deck supporting our swimmers.

Please start with the Foundations of Officiating, then Stroke and Turn Certification and then the Concussion Protocol.  

 

You will also need to complete a background check, concussion training and athlete protection training.

Our team is under contract with Arena.   All competition suits should be of the Arena brand.  During practice swimmers can wear any suit or cap.

All team members will receive a WST shirt and silicon cap as part of their team registration.

SWIM & TRI will be at the WST LC meet June 14 – 16 where you can try suits and equipment on for purchase in person.

 

WST ANNUAL TRAVEL MEET 2024: (10 & over):  Indianapolis, IN

Currently we have 37 swimmers, coaches, chaperones and parents reserved to attend the 2024 Olympic Trials event in Indianapolis, IN June 18 to 20, 2024. 

In addition to the Olympic Trials our swimmers will travel as a team and train for 3 days and attend a prelim/finals long course meet in Indianapolis.  The meet does not have qualifying times and all WST 10 and older swimmers can attend.  

Parents will attend the olympic trials event with the team but are responsible for their separate travel arrangements including hotel and transportation.  The team will travel as a group all 7 days.  Parents are welcome to attend olympic trials and the long course meet to watch their swimmers keeping in mind the group is following travel meet guidelines.  

Non refundable deposits of $300 were billed to each account online for ticket purchases.  Total cost of the trip $1400.

SHENANDOAH VALLEY SWIM LEAGUE:

The WST Meet Schedule has been updated with the 2024 SVSL meet schedule (June/July) including the championship meet July 27th @ Sherando Park pool.  These meets are always fun and come with a team theme for each meet.  We also run our swimmer mentoring program with older swimmers pairing up with our younger swimmers to help guide them at the meets.  We will host 2 meets at Jim Barnett Park on Tuesday June 25th and July 2nd.  All other meets are on Saturday mornings and away.  All WST swimmers can particpate.  If there is a USA Swimming meet the same day swimmers are encouraged to attend the USA Swimming Long Course Meet. 

 

2024 - 2025 WST BOARD ELECTIONS/ICE CREAM SOCIAL

The annual board elections meeting followed by ice cream social is scheduled for June 26th 7:00pm.

NEW WEATHER ALERT SYSTEM IN JIM BARNETT PARK:

FUNDRAISING - 2024 WST SPLASH CARDS:

The 2024 Splash Cards have been distributed.   Year round swimmers, If you have not received your cards please ask Coach Trey for your envelope of 10 cards that you all paid for during year round registration with WST.  You can sell the cards for $15 each or give away as great gifts.  They are by far the best community discount card in the area.  Again BIG thank you to Coach Ann, Shelly Lee and Tanya Bodinetz for their help again in organizing the cards and contacting all the business's who participated again this year.  

 

USA SWIMMING SAFE SPORT TRAINING:

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!

In order to host meets our team must be Safe Sport Certified.  In order to update our Safe Sport Cert we need all parents and swimmers to register and attend one of the following online classes...

USA Swimming Safe Sport staff is hosting Zoom trainings for parents, minor athletes and coaches to assist clubs in completing the Training and Education requirement of the Safe Sport Club Recognition program.

All team coaches, officials, board members, parents and swimmers should attend the online class in order for our team to keep it's Safe Sport certification active. 

To access training sign into your USA Swimming Account and click on the "Training" Tab.  They have classes for Parents, Coaches and Swimmers.

WST 2023 - 2024 USA SWIMMING REGISTRATION:

WST online registration for the 2024 Spring/Summer Season is open and ready for each family to register.  WST Year Round swimmers do not have to register for the Spring/Summer session.

Each family is responsible for registering with USA Swimming separate from your WST registration.  All non-athlete registration with USA Swimming for coaches, board members and officials will be done by WST staff, parents do not need to register as non-athletes.  Our team admin will register all non athletes with USA Swimming. 

1 - All 12 & under swimmers who do not swim more than 2 meets a year can register with the FLEX membership of $30.  Also the FLEX membership does not cover short course district or long course summer awards championship meets.  If you plan to swim these meets then I recommend Premium Membership $88 annaully or an upgrade before those meets.   Meet recon reports prior to each meet reveal swimmers with expired registraiton where they need to be cleared up before attending any practice or meet. 

2 - All 13 & over swimmers should register under the Premium Membership $88.

3 - High School Prep program will run September 3 to November 1, 2024 (2 or 4 days a week practice schedule).**  These swimmers should register under the "Seasonal" option for 150 days @ $53.  This gives these swimmers an option to swim unlimited (non championship) USA Sanctioned meets with WST during the 150 days.

SUMMER SWIM CAMPS:

Mercersburg Swim Camp - Mercersburg, PA

June 16 - 20 or 23 - 27, 2024

Many WST Swimmers have participated in this camp over the years age 9 to 18.  It's a great mix of fun and swimming in an awesome facility just one hour north of Winchesters.  Highly recommended.
