Chance Sports Scholarship Opportunities

One of Colorado Swimming’s priorities is to increase membership and attract new swimmers to the sport of competitive swimming. In particular, CSI seeks to increase access to athletes from diverse backgrounds and provide opportunities to potential swimmers who may otherwise shy away from engaging in the sport due to its associated price tag. As you know, outreach memberships already offer qualified individuals the opportunity to become  USA Swimming year-round athlete members at a reduced $5 fee. However, CSI is always looking for additional ways to grow the sport and support economically disadvantaged athletes.

Recently, CSI has begun to collaborate with Chance Sports, a local nonprofit founded by State Senator James Coleman. Chance Sports’ mission is to level the playing field and open doors to competitive sports that may be closed to athletes due to lack of resources. Chance Sports partners with competitive sports clubs and provides scholarship funds directly to participating athletes who demonstrate need. Athletes on clubs who partner with Chance may apply for scholarships directly through Chance.  Chance offers scholarships on a sliding scale (e.g., 75%, 50% 25% of the annual cost of a sport, including club fees, travel and equipment costs).  Applications are reviewed and, if approved, Chance provides funds directly to the athlete’s family in the form of a digital debit card. Chance Sports seeks to expand its program into additional sports, including competitive swimming. This is where you come in. CSI is encouraging all of its member clubs to partner with Chance. There is no financial or other obligation to clubs. Clubs would simply fill out a form and provide Chance with information about club fees and other costs. This would enable club athletes the opportunity to apply for Chance scholarships.

CSI is very excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Chance to increase access to the sport of swimming and to provide athletes with funds that will enable them to pursue their dreams.
