Senior Silver and Gold Update November 4th - 10th

Tripp Montgomery

Hello Senior Silver and Gold Swimmers and Parents,

Here are some updates and reminders as we head into the week of November 4th in no particular order.

1.  We had a solid week of training last week.  I felt and saw the intensity in efforts put forth at a new and exciting level since returning to TMEC compared to several other of our practices.  Attention to details while training was well executed.  POSITIVE energy was in play.  Keep up the good work as we enter our big race season.  Consistency and delibrate practice will add up!

  • Speaking of Race Season.  Please take a look at your events page and sign up for meets you can attend.  If you cannot attend, please DECLINE the event.  By declining, it is very helpful for our planning / meet entry process.  Also, don't forget to leave a note in the note box if you have information for us to be aware of.
  • For example:  "We can only attend Saturday".
  • Thank you!

2.  Today is Heavy Kick / Endurance.  As a reminder, I strategically follow a daily, weekly, monthly and year training plan to help set us up to be prepared to RACE!  Try your best to organize your schedules so you can make as many practices as possible. Consistency is Key!

  • Monday:  Heavy Kick / Endurance.
  • Tuesday:  Speed!
  • Wednesday:  Pace / Tempo Training.  (NO Challenge Set this week)
  • Thursday:  Drill / Recovery.
  • Friday:  Race!
  • Saturday:  Race!
  • Sunday:  Recovery / Reflect / Plan.

3.  Coach Tripp will be off deck starting Friday November 8th while attending the Kevin B. Perry Meet in La Mirada.  Coach Jason or Coach Megan will run practice.

  • Kevin B. Perry Meet Swimmers this week will swim in the same lane or next to each other depending on space.
  • This is done in an effort to follow my plan / preparation for their meet.
  • Kevin B. Perry swimmers yardage / intensity will be dropping off as we approach the meet.  Practice times will not change.
  • looking forward, this approach will be the same for other championship meets like WAGS, Sectionals and so on.

4.  What is up with the photo attached to this email?

My good friend and former teammate while swimming for the New York Athletic Club years ago, Dr. Shawn Trokhan (Sprint Freestyler, 1996 Olympic Trials qualifier, Princeton graduate) sent it to me the other day.

Why the Washington Monument is deteriorating?

He suggested I share these thoughts / information with my groups of swimmers.  He shared these thoughts with his high school son and two daughters.  Shawn follows myself and TMEC swimmers all the way from out east in New Jersey.  Awesome!

Coach Tripp!

"Great slide from Grand Rounds lecture today. Talking about why the Washington Monument is deteriorating."

"Think today about what the real question is. Think deeply about what other questions we should be asking when we have a problem. In this case, the answer to the problem is… turn off the lights, and we can decrease the deterioration of the Washington Monument."

"The answer to your problem today may be more simple than you think."
