Senior Silver & Gold March 3rd - March 9th Updates and Reminders

Tripp Montgomery

Hello Senior Silver & Gold Swimmers and Parents,

Here are some updates and reminders as we enter the month of March.

1.  With the high school season upon us, we all know schedules become very dynamic.  Communication from you helps me stay in the loop of your schedules.  Thank you!

2.  Looking ahead, our next focus meet is April 5th & 6th in Yucaipa.

This is our first Long Course Meet of the 2025 season and with that comes adjusting.

  • Starting this week we are going to start the process of adjusting in an effort to prepare for Long Course.
  • What does this mean?
    • When at club practices, you will start to see adjustments in yardage and sets.
      • For example, 75's, 125's, 225's and so on.
  • Trivia question:  Do you know the story behind Yuciapa's swimming pool?

3.  Training Equipment Update / Reminder for the season ahead.

4.  What is up with the motivational photo attached to this email?

        More Details!

At Sectionals this weekend, WE agreed that DETAILS run deep in the sport of swimming.  Just a few examples and in no particular order.

  • Alex regarding stroke rate!
  • Maya regarding math as it relates to times!
  • Aiden about positive energy!
  • Emory about going right away in the 200 free!
  • Jon about breaststoke breakouts!
  • Amanda about attacking walls!

It is not just about the laps we swim and the times we see at the end of the race.  It is about all the little details we can seek and accept, challenge ourselves with, win over and become better at in a race, at practice and in life.

Let's continue to try to set ourselves apart further with the DETAILS in this amazing sport!

Examples:

  • What is your time at the 75 of a 100 as it relates to your overall goal time?
  • How do you approach the starting block before your race?
  • What is your competition zone?
  • What are you doing prior to practice to activate your central nervous system for a productive practice?
  • How do you get in and out of the pool?

5.  I believe recognizing and empowering others is very important.  Here is an example of a swimmer who helped me as a coach think further outside the box this past weekend.  It was a discussion of Details with Alexander Hernandez after his very successful 200 back swim in prelims. He reflected on a philosophy of a coach that focused on putting the stopwatch away.

Our discussion opened up my mind and took me back to some important pointers my coach David Marsh gave me years ago as I was starting my coaching career.

"Put the stopwatch away and focus more on the details."

What unfolded in my discussion with Alex created the following:

The Alex Hernandez Challenge Set:

  • RED, YELLOW, GREEN.
  • Stay tuned!

There will be other sets named after other swimmers going forward.  Empowering your investment in this sport is as good as a best time.

Let's GO!
