Summer Sizzler Pre-Meet Info - Update #2

Lauren Nesbitt

A couple additional details for this weekend's meet!

  1. The warm-up times listed in my first pre-meet email are correct and are listed in Eastern Time! They moved all Prelim session start times to 8am rather than 9am like the meet packet had listed originally.
  2. Here is the link to our team's warm-up assignments (I forgot to include the pdf in the first email). The times are the same as the first email listed, I just didn't attach the pdf - /ymca-1739/UserFiles/Image/QuickUpload/warm-up-lanes_039003.pdf
  3. This meet will be utilizing Chase Starts during all 11&Over Prelims sessions!
    1. What is a Chase Start?
      1. A Chase Start is when the officials start the next heat before the the heat already in the water has completely finished the race. These are used when timelines are tight and they need to move heats through quickly to stay within the national sanction guidelines for session length.
    2. How do Chase Starts work?
      1. During the Prelims sessions, the ODD numbered heats will take off from the starting blocks on the window side of the pool while the EVEN numbered heats will take off from the starting blocks on bulkhead side of the pool. The officials will start the next heat before the heat in the water has finished their race hence the "chase" start name. All 50's will also start from the bulkhead starting blocks and will still utizilize chase starts.
    3. Other Notes on Chase Starts:
      1. In the event that a swimmer cannot get out of the water before the swimmer from the next heat is approaching the turn, they should stay in the pool and slide to the corner of the lane to get out of the way of the turning swimmer. Once that swimmer has completed their turn the swimmer from the previous heat should then exit the pool. This is rare for a swimmer to actually catch up to the heat before them before they can exit the water but it does happen occasionally.
      2. There will be NO chase starts used during the 10&Under sessions - only during the 11&Over Prelims sessions. All 10U 50's will start from the bulkhead starting blocks, but any races longer than a 50 will start from the window side starting blocks.
  4. To keep a smooth flow of traffic on the pool deck, the host team has asked that swimmers enter the the pool deck on the bleachers side and exit the pool deck on the scoreboard side.
