Joan swam competitively since the age of 12 as a member of the Flushing Flyers YMCA in Queens, New York.  Continued to swim throughout high school and in college at New York University.  Began working at the Red Bank Y in 2005 teaching swim lessons, then coaching 12U swimmers for several years before taking on current position as Swim Team Administrator.  When not swimming laps or sending way too many emails Joan enjoys spending her free time with her family; husband Ed of 30-plus years, sons Ryan (24) a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina Darla Moore Business school and Kevin (21) a former swimmer on the Red Bank and Greater Monmouth Y National team now attending the University of Cincinnati Engineering school majoring in Construction Management.  Joan also enjoys taking long walks with her dog, Zoe!

Bonni Mora Asst Coach (FOB Sr groups)

Bonni swam competitively for an AAU team that was part of the West Jersey Swim League during the winter and a summer team that was part of the Tri County Swim League during the summers from age 7 til age 17. Bonni holds a B.S. degree in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and worked as a Scientist/Lab analyst in NYC before having children. Bonni started working at the Freehold YMCA teaching swim lessons and coaching a summer team for Monmouth Heights Manalapan. When Old Bridge YMCA opened in 2009, Bonni started part time coaching. Bonni continued coaching when Freehold and Old Bridge merged becoming FOBY. In 2014 Bonni started coaching for Red Bank, now GMNY. Bonni has coached at all the GMNY locations and has coached all age groups! Bonni is currently the site supervisor at the Freehold and Old Bridge locations and coaches the 13 and over age groups. Bonni and her family recently moved to Shark River Hills and enjoy the beach, boating and mountain biking at nearby Allaire State Park.

Alexandra Safarian Site Age Group Coach FOB

Sasha began her swimming career at the Ocean County YMCA; she went on to swim in college for 2 years at Ocean County Community College and finished her college swimming at Monmouth University. Sasha lifeguarded and taught swim lessons at OCY and later coached the 12U swimmers from 2014 thru 2017.  After OCY Sasha started coaching for the Red Bank YMCA in 2019 and has continued her coaching career with Greater Monmouth YMCA where she is currently the Site Age Group coach for our 12U swimmers at Freehold and Old Bridge.

She was selected as the ASCA 30 under 30 Grant recipient for the 2024 ASCA World Clinic

She was selected as the 2024 Long Course Zones 13/14 Assistant Coach.

She has coached Numerous 12/u State Champions and Zone qualifiers throughout the years. 

When Sasha isn't coaching she enjoys going to the beach and spending time with family.

Ashley Fahey Assistant Coach (Juniors)

After earning a dual Master’s degree in Childhood Education and Special Education from Wagner College in 2009, Ashley Fahey played a key role in launching a new YMCA program in Old Bridge, New Jersey. Her career in youth and community development has since included positions with the Westfield YMCA and Red Bank YMCA. She is currently part of the coaching staff at the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County.

In addition to her work with the YMCA, Fahey has served as the Assistant Women’s Swim Coach/Aquatics Director from 2097-2009 and the Program Assistant for the men’s swim team at Wagner College, a Division I institution located in Staten Island, New York in 2020. She also coaches with the summer team at Beacon Hill Country Club.

A former competitive swimmer at Ithaca College, Coach Ashley remains passionate about the sport and continues to swim recreationally. In her free time, she enjoys reading, iced coffee, and spending quality time with her husband and their two daughters.

Abby Muller Asst Coach (Sr groups)

Abby started swimming for the Freehold YMCA at the age of 8 and returned to coach for FOBY in 2011 after graduating with her BA from Rider University. She started coaching for Red Bank in 2014 and has worked with all age group levels over the years as the team grew into GMNY. Abby graduated with her doctorate in physical therapy from Seton Hall University in 2018. She is now center manager of the Kessler Rehabilitation Center in Howell, holding certifications in cupping, kinesiotaping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, dry needling, and blood flow restriction training. When not treating patients or at swim practice, you can find Abby in her favorite place, Epcot in Walt Disney World.

David Eldridge Asst Coach (Wall Sr groups)

David has been involved in competitive swimming for over 50 years and has been coaching for over 25 years. He has coached at many levels, from summer league to the National level, including sending swimmers to the Olympic Trials and Paralympic World Games. He’s been coaching with GMNY since 2020. His passion is coaching and loves nothing better than to watch swimmers grow, gain confidence, and believe in themselves through their daily hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance.

David graduated from Arizona University with a finance degree. He qualified for NCAA’s each of his 4 years and finished his career with a top 8th finish at US Nationals and world rank of 20th in the 400 IM, as well as attended Olympic Trials in 1984. He began swimming at an early age, swimming for Summit Y and SHY. During his years with the Y teams, he set two YMCA National age group records in the 100 free and 200 IM. He transferred to Berkeley Aquatic club during his High School years where he won US Jr. Nationals in the 200 & 400 IM, breaking the meet record in the 200 IM. He also finished top 8 in both the 200 & 400 free. In his senior year in High School he qualified for US Senior nationals his in both the 200 & 400 IM and 200 & 400 freestyle events.

David Schlatter Asst Coach (Sr2 & Wall Sr Groups)

My name is Dave. I swam under Coach Jack Caucino at Ocean County College before continuing my collegiate swimming career at Rowan University, where I earned a B.S. in History. I also spent several summers lifeguarding at Lavallette Beach Patrol. 

 

I've been a New Jersey State Trooper for the past 22 years. In my free time, I volunteer coach the senior swim group. I enjoy working with athletes who are focused on improving and pushing themselves in the sport.

 

My wife Sandra and I have been married for 19 years. We have two children, Madelyn and Brady who both swim for GMNY, and two dogs, Alonso and Paisley. Outside of work and coaching, I like playing pickleball, golfing, and saltwater fishing.

 
David Lo Assistant Coach (Sr2 FOB)
David's journey with Competitive swimming began at age 11 with YMCA swimming, then high school swimming, and finally Division 1 swimming at Saint Peter’s University.  After graduating with a Math degree, he pursued a career in Finance with Equitable.  Through the years, he’s remained connected to swimming by Life guarding for IBSP, volunteering for the Special Olympics, officiating for the YMCA, and joining the GMNY coaching team 2020.  Outside of swimming, family comes first and David is devoted to his wife, Nina and 2 children, Davina and Lucas.  If there’s any time left, David enjoys a good comedy, mountain biking, snowboarding, and playing tennis.    We’re all in this pool together! 
 
Donna Hein Assistant Coach (10U Wall site)
Donna holds a B.S. from Montclair State University in Health and Physical Education and a Masters in Health Education from New Jersey City University.   While attending Montclair she was the Head Lifeguard and taught swim lessons with Montclair’s Head Swim Team coach, Brian McLoughlin.  Donna has been teaching and coaching at the high school level for the last 23 years.  She is currently at Freehold Township High School. Donna has worked for GMNY for 7 years. She began coaching for Camp Zehnder’s summer team, The Summer Rockets, in 2018 and primarily coaches 12U for GMNY.  Donna lives in Howell with her husband, John, and 3 children:  two daughters Samantha and Bryce (16 and 14) and son, Johnny (9).  In her free time she loves hiking, camping and mountain biking at Allaire State Park.
 
Elissa Vaage Assistant Coach (Sr/Sr1)

Elissa began swimming competitively for the Freehold YMCA and then later for the Red Bank YMCA.  She holds a B.S. in Physical Education from Montclair State University where she continued to swim for four years.  She spent her summers lifeguarding at Sandy Hook and several years teaching PE and coaching (soccer, swimming, and softball) before starting a family.  She has two kids, both are current members of GMNY.  Elissa joined the coaching staff in the fall of 2019.

Markus Fricker Assistant Coach (Sr1S and 1B)

Started competitive swimming in Illinois at age 7 before moving to Middletown and joining Red Bank YMCA swim team at 12 along with my 3 brothers.  Was named team captain in 1985 my senior year and helped coach the younger swimmers which was the beginning of my coaching career. Continued swimming in college for Rider University. 

Joined the Red Bank coaching staff in 1991 while beginning my career in brokerage services. Prior to joining the GMNY coaching staff in 2022 I was the head age group coach at Ridgewood YMCA for 12 years; during that time I coached multiple State,JO and Zone champions.

Sandra Kelly Assistant Coach (12U Red Bank site)

Started competitive swimming in Pittsford, New York at the age of 6 for the PACK swim club and continued all the way through college. I attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York as a 4 year scholarship division I athlete in swimming. While in college, I also helped coach the younger swimmers on the Marist Club Team. In addition, I worked at Sandy Hook as a beach lifeguard for over 10 years before having children. Currently, I am an elementary teacher, a parent of 2 children on GMNY, and part of the coaching staff for the younger groups. 

Kevin Schroth Assistant Coach (10U Red Bank site)

Kevin Schroth was a 4-year Division I swimmer and  water   polo  player for Bucknell University. In high school, Kevin swam for the Lawrenceville School and, before that, with Princeton's YMCA team. He lives in Rumson with his wife and two children and works as a professor at Rutgers' School of Public Health.  Kevin coaches GMNY 10U swimmers at Red Bank.

Adalberto Ramos Assistant Coach (10U Red Bank site)

Coach Al has been coaching our 10U swimmers at Red Bank site for the last 9 years.  Al swam in Brazil where he was a three time national champion.  Al is also a black belt in marital arts and an entrepreneur with a masters degree in accounting.  Al is also a Marine Veteran and received the Purple Heart Medal.

Colleen Panzini Assistant Coach (10U Wall site)

Married to Jim & Momager to 4 Boys First swim lesson @ Camp Zehnder when I was 4 & my mom said I loved the H2O then. Spring Lake Beach lifeguard back in the early ‘80s Swam @ Shore Area YMCA, CJAC, Brown University (4 years): Ivy & Eastern Champs Coached Spring Lake Summer Swim Team 2008-2016: No swimmer ever missed a race. Ran the Disney Marathon & plan on running another one. Graduate: Brown University BA Economics                      Seton Hall Law Juris Doctorate

Jason Wallrabe Asst Coach (Sr S&C)

Jason started his swimming career on the Monmouth Barracudas Swim Team.  He continued swimming through college, attending Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania and graduating with a degree in exercise science.  Jason began coaching at GMNY in 2024 and works closely with our senior swimmers on Strength and Conditioning.

William Smith Strength &Conditioning

Will Smith, MS, CSCS, MEPD, is a seasoned fitness pro with a passion for helping people move and feel better. With a B.S. in Exercise Science from Western Michigan and a master’s from St. John’s University—where he also served as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning—he’s built a career combining science, coaching, and real-world experience.

He’s the author of 14 books and has been featured on NBC, Time.com, Real Simple magazine, and at major events like the World Spinning Conference. Will’s also presented for the NSCA’s New Jersey State Chapter, Canyon Ranch, and joined the Rutgers University Physical Therapy Program as an adjunct faculty member. Currently, he supports health and wellness initiatives at New Jersey’s top-rated hospital, focusing on employer-based medical and wellness programs.

Will is the Strength and Conditioning coach for all senior level groups.

Thomas McLoughlin Asst Coach (10 Red Bank)
 
Tom grew up swimming at the Red Bank YMCA, where he was a member of the National Team. He continued his swimming career at Providence College, serving as team Captain. Tom was also an accomplished distance runner through high school, and competed as an elite triathlete post-college. In his younger years, he spent more than a decade as a lifeguard at Sandy Hook, competing in regional and national surf racing competitions.
 
Tom and his wife Katie have two daughters, Emmie, a GMNY swimmer, and Addie who will be joining soon. When not working or coaching, he loves spending time on the beach, running, traveling, and surfing as much as possible.

Christopher Tanudjaja Asst Coach (FOB 10U)

I began my swimming career when I was 7 years old with Scarlet Aquatics swim club and carried on swimming throughout high school. I have been swimming for 11 years.  I attend Rutgers University majoring in computer science and ITI. I began coaching at GMNY in 2023 and I enjoy working on techniques and drills with the younger kids. During my free time, I enjoy learning about Artificial Intelligence, hiking, and swimming. 

William Anderson Asst Coach (FOB Sr & Jr)
Billy started competitive swimming at the age of 10 primarily swimming for the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins in Northeast Ohio.  He swam for Emory University  specializing in mid distance freestyle and butterfly.  He graduated with a BA in Economics.
 
Billy joined the coaching staff in 2024 helping with the junior and senior groups.  He currently resides in Atlantic Highlands with his wife and works as a risk manager for Morgan Stanley.
Caroline McGann Asst Coach (12U & Sr)

Caroline began her competitive swimming career at the age of 9 with the Red Bank YMCA and joined the National Team by 14 in 2016. She holds records in the 13–14 age group for the 100-yard freestyle and multiple relays. Her early career highlights include contributing to the Red Bank YMCA's 1st place finishes in both the Overall Combined and Women's Team categories at the 2019 YMCA Long Course National Championships. In 2020, she served as a team captain for the Greater Monmouth YMCA.

From 2020 to 2024, Caroline attended Bucknell University, where she was a member of the varsity swimming and diving team. She graduated with a dual major in Economics and Geography. Beyond academics and athletics, Caroline demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and service through her role as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where she helped bridge connections between Bucknell athletes, campus organizations, and the broader community.

In the pool, Caroline was a consistent contributor to the Patriot League Championship team throughout her four years, earning points each season. She was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll all four years, earned Patriot League Academic All-League honors twice, and was selected to the Patriot League All-League Team.

Caroline also participated in the Women’s Sports Foundation Mentorship Program during 2023–2024 and was recognized with the prestigious Ray Bucknell Award for Diversity and Inclusion.

In addition to coaching our 10U swimmers at Red Bank, Caroline works closely with our National Team swimmers on the pool deck and with their Strength and Conditioning program.

Caelin Burgi Asst Coach (FOB 12U)

Coach Caelin's swimming career began at age 7 in 2009, the year the Old Bridge YMCA swim team was founded. She grew up with the team as it grew from OBY to FOBY and then finally GMNY. She first started coaching during the summers with the Monmouth Heights Marlins, and fell in love with the process of teaching developmental technique to the 8U swimmers. After high school, Caelin attended the University of South Carolina and earned her bachelor's degree in marine biology. Though she didn't swim at school, she knew as soon as she moved back home post-grad that she wanted to return to the team that practically raised her. She currently works at the Monmouth County SPCA as the Assistant Feline Adoption Manager. Outside of swimming, Coach Caelin loves to read, hang out with her dog Molly, and spend as much time outdoors as possible. Her favorite events are the 200 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle. 

Dan Drury Asst Coach (12U Wall)

Dan began competitive swimming in 1988 and has been committed to the sport ever since.  He started at Summit YMCA through age 13, then competed for Red Bank YMCA during his high school years.  Dan continued swimming at The College of New Jersey, helping the team capture Conference titles from 1999 through 2002.  Dan continues to swim competitively in masters swimming, currently training with the Jersey Shore Masters team.   Dan also enjoys training and challenging himself in triathlon, having completed Ironman Maryland in 2024.

 

Dan graduated from TCNJ with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer.  Dan has been employed by the Jingoli family of companies for over 23 years and is currently the Sr. Director of Projects Implementation for JDC Energy Services, LLC. 

 

He is happily married to his wife Donna and is the proud father of Kaitlyn (13), Ryan (10) and Liam (5).  Kaitlyn and Ryan compete for GMNY.  Dan enjoys coaching and motivating all the athletes at GMNY, particularly during the tough sets and swim meets. 

William Starkey Asst Coach (12U Wall)

Bill began competitive swimming for Ocean Township high school 1992, and caught the swimming bug. At that point, started swimming year round  and has been committed to the sport ever since. Bill continued swimming after school, and joined the masters swim team, currently with the Jersey Shore and JCC Masters team(s).   Bill also enjoys running, competing in the local 5-mile, 5K, and occasional half marathons. 

 Bill graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in General Humanities. Bill has been employed by Verisk Analytics (insurance data provider) for the past 23 years working in a variety of jobs for the past 17 years in Insurance Software Sales.

 He is happily married to his wife Brianna and is the proud father of Ari (14), and Viv (12). Both girls swim for GMNY. Bill loves coaching the kids with a nurturing style that helps to motivate them with positive reinforcement.

Stephanie has been coaching for over 30 yrs, age group as well as master swimmers & triathletes. She has coached all ages from 5-70 years of age.  Her coaching philosophy combines dedication, determination and hard work with the belief in oneself. Everyone deserves a lane!
