MLK MEETS AND CERAVE INVITE RECAP
What a Weekend!
The 92 Street Y Flying Dolphins competed in three meets the weekend of January 14-16, racking up impressive swims at the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational in East Meadow , NY , AGUA MLK, and the CeraVe Invitational at Rutgers University .
At the CeraVe Invite, Molly Brickman, Carly Fried, and Sophie Halper all qualified for Senior Mets Long Course. In addition, Brickman placed an impressive 5th in the 13-14 100 meter freestyle and Halper placed 3rd in the 11-12 100 meter freestyle, 3rd in the 11-12 50 freestyle, 5th in the 11-12 200 freestyle, and 6th in the 400 freestyle. Fried posted top 8 finishes in the 11-12 50 breaststroke (3rd), 11-12 100 breaststroke (5th), and the 11-12 400 freestyle (7th). OUTSTANDING!!
At the MLK, Jr. Invitational the Flying Dolphins broke 5 team records. Leading the way for the Junior team, 8 and Under Maya Milrod broke 3 team records. She posted a time of 3:04.76 in the 200 I.M., 32.90 in the 50 freestyle, and 35.36 in the 50 butterfly. Milrod also captured two first place finishes (50 butterfly and 50 freestyle). Adding to the team record haul, Devon French placed 3rd in the 9-10 100 backstroke with a new team record of 1:15.72 and Alec Kahn placed 4th in the 11-12 200 I.M. with a time of 2:33.24.
Senior team members Leta Giordano (11-12 50 butterfly), Liana Monderer (11-12 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke), Sappha O’Meara (Senior 100 breaststroke), Sophie Siegel (Senior 100 backstroke), and Jessica Weiss (11-12 200 I.M., 100 I.M., 50 breaststroke) also all recorded top eight finishes .
At the AGUA MLK meet, Carly Fried and Sophie Halper both took home the gold in the 400 IM for Fried with a time of 5:06.2 and 500 Free for Halper with a time of 5:33.00. Jessica Lipton swam best time in the 400IM with time of 5:19.2 and Jessica Weiss with best time in the 500 Free with a time of 6:13.5.
