Big News!!! 2011 Zone Team Qualifier Meet Recap

THREE FLYING DOLPHINS QUALIFY TO REPRESENT THE METRO TEAM AT THE 2011 ALL-STAR EASTERN ZONE CHAMPOIONSHIPS

For all the FLYING DOLPHINS families hard work has been paying off as evidence by this past weekend’s 2011 Zone Team Qualifier. The meet has been by far the best meet in the Flying Dolphins history. It is the only meet to date on which swimmers exceeded the coaches’ expectations, and that in itself is a great performance (!!!).

 

After three long days of intense and fierce races, three FLYING DOLPHINS qualified to represent Metropolitan LSC at the 2011 SCY Eastern Zone Championships. The FLYING Dolphins’ squad gearing up to race the best Age Group swimmers in North East is lead by Molly Brickman (14) who qualified in  200 free, 500 Freestyle, and the 400 IM as the Zone Qualifier Champion; she also finished second in the 100 free. Also with 2 events Carly Fried (12) will have a good schedule swimming 50 breast, and 100 breast. She was the second fastest swimmer in the 50 breast and third fastest in the 100 breast. Sophie Halper (13) made the team as she stretched for a second place touch, just fourteen hundreds of a second ahead of a closing pack of hungry swimmers. Sophie also qualified in the 200 Free Relay as well as the 400 Free Relay. Outstanding J .

 

Adding to the excitement, we had way to many great swims; Sophie Siegel (13) had a breakout meet making finals in both the 100 back 1:03.53 and 200 back with a Senior Mets cut 2:13.85 and 4th place finish. Alec Kahn (11) finished 9th in the 200 breast with a time 2:47.89.Jessie Weiss (12) had a lifetime best in the 50 breast 35.63; Sappha Omeara (13) with a personal best time in the 100 breast and 12th place finish with a time of 1:14.10; Leta Giordano (12) broke the 30 barrier in the 50 fly with an impressive time of 29.82 and 12th place finish. Liana Monderer had great swims in the 50 back 31.85 and 100 back 1:09.74.

 

Five swimmers from the Junior Team swam personal bests this weekend competing in the 10 and Under sessions. Opening the 10 and Under sessions on Saturday 50 Breaststrokers, Emily Weiss swam a personal best time of 39. 16 placing 9th overall and Lexi Fried swam a personal best time of 40.72 placing 19th overall. For the boys, breastroker Evan Lipton swam a personal best time 1:30.73 in the 100 Breaststroke to finish 17th overall and Devon French improved on his own best time with a mark of 35.95 in the 50 Backstroke. Evan also competed in the 200 Free finishing 19th with a time of 2:29.03.

 

On Sunday, the Juniors got back to work Evan Lipton, Emily Weiss and Lucy Elliott all competing in tough events. Evan began the day with another personal best time in the 100 Free with a 1:07.37. Evan then swam the 50 Breaststroke finish 15th with a time of 41.68, and then finishing the day off with another impressive personal best in the 50 Fly swimming a 34.32. Breaststroker, Emily Weiss swam the 100 Breaststroke dropping over three seconds off her personal best to a 1:28.13 and finishing 14th overall. Lucy Elliot in her first day of competition, swam the 50 Backstroke with a personal best time of 34.36 and finished 5th place overall.

         

          On Monday, after two days of fast swimming, the Junior Team came back to Lehman ready to race. Backstrokers, Lucy Elliott and Devon French began a great day of competition. Lucy finished 11th in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:15.77 and Devon finished in a time of 1:18.30. Both 10 and Under boys competed in the 50 Free, Evan finished with another personal best time of 30.39 and Devon with a time of 32.07. In Evan’s final event of the weekend he swam the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:21.62. Congratulations to the 10 and Under swimmers, what a great weekend of swimming!
