Metro 8&Under Championships Wrap-up
Flippers Fly at 8 & Under Championships
Eleven members of the Flippers squad traveled to Felix V Festa Middle School on March 12-13 to compete in the Metro 8 & Under Championships. Coach Laura is pleased to report big improvements in many events and great swims all around!
For the 8 year old girls, Kathryn Wang placed 7thin the 100 free, 11thin the 25 fly, 4thin the 50 breast, 3rdin the 100 I.M., 2ndin the 25 breast, and 6thin the 50 fly. Caroline Burke also had an impressive swim in the 50 fly, placing 13thwith a personal best time and Silvers cut. Ella Green, Lucy Kleinschmint, and Melanie Victor also had personal best times and showed amazing spirit and enthusiasm.
For the 7 year old girls, Eve Pennington posted personal best times in the 25 back, 25 fly, 50 free and 25 free. Sawyer Niehaus swam best times in the 25 back and 25 fly.
For the 8 year old boys, Gustavo Lopez posted a best time in the 25 free and David Porges racked up personal records in the 100 I.M., 25 breast, and 50 free. Additionally, Porges and Lopez teamed up with seven year old Gavin Green and 6 year old Matthew Lipton to capture 16thplace in the 8 & under boys 200 Medley Relay.
In the 7 year old boy events, Gavin Green swam best times in five events and placed in four, making the medal podium in the 100 free (7th), the 50 breast (4th),and the 25 breast (5th). He was also 15thin the 50 free. Will Murphy showed great racing technique as well, posting best times in the 25 free, 50 back, 25 breast (19thplace).
For the six year old boys, Matthew Lipton also showed remarkable improvements, placing 11thin the 50 free, 8thin the 25 back, 10thin 25 fly, 15thin the 25 free, and 10thin the 50 back.
Coach Laura is very proud of the dedication, sportsmanship, and spirit demonstrated by all the swimmers. Special thanks to the siblings and parents who traveled to the meet to show their support. Great job to the Flippers team!
