2011 Metropolitan Short Course Junior Olympics Swimming Championships
On March 25, the Flying Dolphins traveled to the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow , NY to compete in the Metro Region Short Course Junior Olympics. YFD posted impressive swims throughout the three day meet.
The Junior team had two Top Sixteen individual finishes. Emily Weiss was 12th in the 10 & Under 50 breaststroke and Lucy Elliot was 5th in the 10 & Under 50 backstroke, with a Metro top ten time of 33.68.
For the 10 & Under boys, Evan Lipton and Devon French were the busiest swimmers of the meet, competing in 10 individual events each. Lipton accomplished best times in the 200 freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 50 freestyle, and 50 breaststroke while French improved in the 200IM, 100 Freestyle, 100 IM, and 50 butterfly.
In the relay events, the 10 & Under 400 freestyle relay of Mary McKenzie Grier, Maya Milrod, Weiss, and Elliot teamed up to place an impressive 6th, while the boys 400 freestyle relay of French, Dylan Porges, Ryan Green, and Lipton finished 9th. In the 10 & Under girls 200 freestyle relay, Elliot, Milrod, Weiss, and Grier reunited to place 9th, while Lipton, Green, Porges, and French posted a 10th place finish in the boys 10 & Under 200 freestyle relay.
The Senior team also had a big meet, placing 5 swims in the top 8. Sappha
O’Meara was 7th in the 13-14 women’s 200 breaststroke(Team Record 2:35.40) and Sophie Halper was 5th in the 13-14 women’s 100 freestyle. Carly Fried was 2nd in the 11-12 women’s 200 breaststroke, and took 6th place in the 11-12 women’s 100 breaststroke, 12th place in the 11-12 women’s 400 IM, and 4th in the 50 breaststroke.
Rounding out the top 16 were Jessica Weiss with a 16th place in the 11-12 women’s 400 IM, a 16th place in the 11-12 women’s 50 breaststroke, and a 15th place in the 11-12 100 IM; Sophie Siegel with a 12th place finish in the 13-14 women’s 100 backstroke; Alec Kahn with a 15th place in the 11-12 men’s 200 breaststroke; O’Meara with a 12th place in the 13-14 women’s 100 breaststroke (Team Record 1:11.85); and Halper with a 15th place in the 13-14 women’s 100 butterfly and a team record with a time of 1:02.53. Jessica Lipton dropped a whopping 8 seconds off her 400 IM and 6 seconds off her 200 fly for the two biggest time drops of the meet.
The Senior team also combined for several impressive relay swims. The 13-14 400 freestyle relay of Carly Feinblatt, Halper, Skye Barclay, and Siegel finished 16th. The 13-14 200 Medley relay team of Barclay, O’Meara, Siegel and Halper finished 11th. The 11-12 200 Medley relay team of Liana Monderer, Fried, Weiss, and Emily Fennell placed 10th.
Best times for the Junior team were posted by Elliott, Weiss, Lexi Fried, E. Lipton, French, Grier, Kathryn Wang, Milrod, Porges. Best times for the Senior team were posted by Weiss, O’Meara, Lipton, and Halper. Offering big help on the Junior team’s relays were Elena Messinger, Isabella Cruz, Ella Green, and Sophie Mackin.
Coach Amine, Coach Emily, Coach Laura, and Coach Sarah are very proud of all their swimmers. Great swims everyone!
