Molly Brickman, Sophie Halper, and Carly Fried Represent at Eastern Zone Champs
Three swimmers from the 92nd Street Y Flying Dolphins qualified to represent Metropolitan Swimming (Metro) at the Eastern Zone Short Course Swimming Championships last weekend (3/31/2011 - 4/2/2011).
Twelve year old Carly Fried qualified to represent Metro in the 50 breaststroke and the 100 breaststroke. Fried’s 50 breaststroke was a personal best and new team record of 32.41, good enough for 10th place.
Thirteen year old Sophie Halper qualified for the team in the 200 freestyle, the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 freestyle relay. She was 10th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:00.14. She teamed up with fourteen year old teammate Molly Brickman for the 200 freestyle relay (2nd over all with a time of 1:40.32) and the 400 freestyle relay (4th overall with a time of 3:39.17). Halper’s relay split in the 200 freestyle relay was a best time 25.29 in the 50 freestyle. Halper also recorded an impressive “second best” season times in the 100 freestyle, 55.15.
Brickman, the busiest Flying Dolphins of the meet, placed in the top ten for all of her individual four events. She was 7th in the 100 freestyle, 8th in the 200 freestyle, 3rd in the 500 freestyle, and 10th in the 400 I.M. Her 100 freestyle time of 54.20 and the 500 freestyle time of 5:09.08 were both personal best and new team records.
Also representing YFD, head coach Amine Boubsis participated in the meet as a Metro Zone team coach. This is the second year in a row he received the honor.
Over all, Metropolitan Swimming placed third, behind Middle Atlantic, and Niagara , respectively.
