Coach Christopher J. Nuess

CJ has joined the coaching staff of the 92Y Flying Dolphins team and brings 15 years of high level competitive swimming, coaching and instruction experience, skills, and a high swimming IQ to our program. 

 

Before joining the 92Y Flying Dolphins, CJ was the assistant swim coach for the varsity team at The Brearley School and was formerly the head coach for the Lauderdale Isles Yacht Club summer league team in Fort Lauderdale , Florida . CJ designed practices and offered stroke technique drills. 

 

CJ got his start in competitive swimming at the age of eight in Spokane , Washington for the Spokane Area swim team. Swimming is in his genes as his sister swam for Fordham University and his mother placed fifth in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City . In his sophomore year in high school, CJ was a state champion in the 100 breast and the 200 IM.  CJ broke into the International level in 2003 as a member of the USA National Junior Team and traveled to Australia for his first international meet. 

 

CJ attended Arizona State University on a swimming scholarship and earned a degree in Communications and Anthropology.  He was the PAC-10 Swimmer of the Month three different times, school record holder in the 400 IM, PAC-10 champion in the 1650 free, and a 3-time NCAA All-American.  

 

In the summers CJ trained with the renowned Pinecrest Swim Team in Fort Lauderdale , Florida .  He traveled all over the country, Japan and Canada for many top level meets as a member of the Pinecrest swim club.

 

CJ also was a member of the 2007 USA National Team and competed at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Trials.

 

CJ moved to the Big Apple in October 2010.
