Solid Show at the 2013 NC Invitational

The weekend at New Canaan was a grand success for the 92Y Flying Dolphins! Collectively the team posted 132 lifetime best performances. Many returned for finals in the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday, where again they broke their best times from the morning swims. Nathalie Young set a lifetime best every time she hit the water. Seeded third in the morning for 100 back, she returned in the afternoon swimming faster than before, and winning the event. All together Nathalie had ten personal best swims. Esme Blackstock qualified for Junior Olympics in four events: 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, and 100 fly. Esme also was the First Place High Point winner in the 9-10 age group. Annie Brown had an impressive swim in her 100 freestyle, posting a time of 1:29.03 which is almost a 26 second drop from her previous best time. Devon French was the First Place High Point winner in the 11-12 age group. He had three first place finishes (50 back, 100 fly, 50 fly), two second place finishes (200 IM, 100 free) and two third place finishes (50 free, 100 back).Emily Weiss finished with a Third Place High Point prize in the 11-12 age group. She posted six lifetime best swims and finished first in 100 fly and third in 200IM, 50 back, and 50 breast. Gavin Green swam a best time in five out of six swims throughout the weekend. Melanie Victor had four lifetime best swims and finished in eighth and ninth place in 50 breast and 100 breast, respectively. Sarah Van Dyke had a personal best swim in all of her events on Saturday afternoon. Naomi Schatz showed some great improvements in her swims and collectively dropped over 14 seconds in all of her races. Dylan, Abby, and Fennell all swam to their first ZQ cut and Arnelle broke the minute barrier for the first time. This is just some of the highlights from the meet. Every team member had scored points for the team or had at least a lifetime best swim this weekend. Nothing could be more successful than that

Many thanks are extended to the parents who were there for prelims and finals, and even middle session on Saturday, cheering for their children and others. The support from the stands was a great contribution to the Dolphins’ success this weekend. Also, thanks to all the parents who volunteered as timers this weekend and a special thanks to Conrad Barclay (Skye’s dad) Along with Marisa Scotti (92Y Director of Membership Services) who both took some great pictures.  Your help and positive energy on the deck helped all of the athletes.

Keep up the positive energy and strong swims, YFD!
