YFD Senior Spotlight: 12 Questions with Evan Klein

1) How long have you been on YFD?

I’ve been on YFD since 2019, so this is my third year on the team.

2) Why did you choose the school you will attend next year?

I chose Michigan because of the great academic opportunities, sports culture, and overall school spirit.

3) Do you know what you want to study? If so, what?

I will be studying Economics and Organizational Studies, which I feel are good areas to study for me to get immersed in the business world while also giving me the tools to pursue other interests that I may find more appealing later in life.

4) What is your favorite memory of being on YFD?

My favorite memory would have to be Saturday night at the North Carolina meet two years ago when we got a little rowdy and poured cereal around the entire room, We ended up cleaning most of it up, but the Honey Bunches of Oats were pretty hard to get out of the bed, so that was fun.

5) What is the hardest set you can remember doing?

The hardest set I’ve done is probably the 2:01 set we did on the training trip.

6) What is your favorite Amine story?

When Amine finessed his way into getting us first-class seats on the way back from Greensboro (after almost missing the flight).

7) If you could go back in time and tell yourself something as a younger swimmer, what would it be?

I would tell myself to try to have fun at every practice and embrace the process.

8) How did you balance academics and being a competitive swimmer?

For most of high school, I would get some of my homework done before practice and then stay up until about 11 pm to finish the rest, but it does take good time management skills to be able to balance everything as you get older.

9) What is your favorite pre-meet meal?

Penne pasta with sliced cucumbers.

10) What is your favorite event and why?

100 IM, because you get to do all the strokes, and don’t have to worry about pacing.

11) What is your proudest accomplishment to date?

Beating Badger’s relay at Senior Mets last summer!

12) Do you have any advice for the younger swimmers on the team who might want to swim collegiately?

Be open minded to new things, whether that be meeting new people or trying a race that you don’t really like.
