Referee Re-Cap

Terri Clark

Dear Referees,

Thank you for attending the training last month. We hope you found it helpful, and we look forward to hosting more sessions in the future. The recording of the webinar is available and is on the officials' website, as a reminder you must be logged in to gain access.

We wanted to clarify a couple of points discussed during the training:

- Apprentice Stroke & Turn Officials are indeed prohibited under USAS Certification & Advancement Standards from making disqualifications.

- However, the statement regarding Apprentice Administrative Officials (AOs) was incorrect. Apprentice AOs are not prohibited from making timing adjustments.

There were a few action items:

- Please remember to reference the rosters on the website. This is the most updated information to identify the apprentices.  If you have an apprentice who isn’t showing up on the roster, it’s because they haven’t met the criteria or formally initiated the process of being an apprentice.  In this case, they should not serve as apprentices on your deck. If you have any questions, we are here to assist. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] with any questions.

- Make sure that you are entering the official’s sessions and positions worked for your meets into OTS. This is how we can track our officials for re-certification, certification, and advancement.

- Here is a link to our website where you can find many resources to help you in your role:  Michigan Swimming Officials Home

Thank you for your attention to these details and for your continued commitment to officiating excellence.

Best regards,

Holly Russell
