Structure:
The Glens Falls YMCA Gators is a competitive program that develops swimmers from 5 to 18 years old. The levels are primarily skill-based. All movement between levels is based on a combination of skill and age progression and is solely at the discretion of the Coaches. Emphasis at all levels is placed on character development, team-building, and participation as well as competition.

| Gatorade Group This is our entry level group. Swimmers entering this group are generally expected to be able to swim a length of the pool, be comfortable in the water, and going underwater. Gatorades will learn the language and skills that will provide a smooth transition through the Gators Swim Team. This level is instructional in nature and emphasizes a basic introduction to competitive swimming skills while having fun. Swimmer will be encouraged to try competition at YMCA meets. However, it is not mandatory in this group. Gatorade Group Coach: Willow Swan-Scott Workout Days/Times: Gatorades TUESDAY 6:00 –7:00PM
Green Group From the Gatorades, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start and turn technique. TUESDAY 5:30 –7:00PM
Silver Group The Silver group is currently our Triathlon club. The Gators dryl and is well rounded and there are those athletes that want to train for Triathlons. They will typically do most of the dry land with us and swim 3 times per week with the gold group. Silver Group Currently no Silver group times
Gold Group Athletes transition to this group from the Green Group. Proper stroke technique continues to be a primary focus while a greater emphasis is placed on training and learning to train as part of a workout group. More emphasis is on dedication and determination. Athletes in this group are usually at least 11 years old and have completed Green Group or equivalent swimming experience, having accomplished proficiency in all four strokes. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of at least once per month. All athletes that qualify for League Championships, State Championships or Long Course Championships (summer) are expected to attend these meets. Swimmers are introduced to goal-setting, dry land activities and team-building volunteer activities. Some of the older swimmers in this group participate in high school swimming programs. For some high school athletes, Gold group may be the highest level at the Gators. For these swimmers, Gold group will complement their high school swimming training. Promotion to the Black Group Requires demonstration of commitment to Gators and year round training, good attendance, willingness to participate in dry land activities, and ability to train at a level and speed that is expected in Black Group. Promotion to Black Group is based on a combination of skill, commitment, and age progression and is solely aat the discretion of the Head Coach.
MONDAY. 6:30-7:30PM Black Group Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athletes development. Athletes in this group train for the 200, 400 Individual Medley and 500, 1650 Freestyle. Membership in the group is equally weighted on performance AND commitment levels from both the athlete and the family. This group is designed for swimmers with the necessary ability and desire to train and compete at a regional/state level. Attendance at the majority of practices is expected.
Workout Days/Times:
Senior Group Athletes entering the Senior group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. Attendance at morning practice is required. Attendance at all practices designated by the Head Coach is required. Swimmer are required to compete at all advised meets, including National meets that may require out of state travel. These meets may require missing small amounts of school due to travel. Senior Group Coach: Currently NO senior Group Workout Days/Times: MONDAY DRL 6:00- 6:30PM SW 6:30-8:30PM *It is expected to attend all dryland training. |
