Dennie Wilson Head Coach

Dennie started following her brother to practices and inevitably she joined the “Jamestown Jets” YMCA Swim Team at age 6, and swam year round in western NY until she started swimming for Jamestown High School. She earned a swimming scholarship at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in in Fine Arts and Crafts/Ceramics with a minor in Art Education. 

She has been guest services manager the University of Albany Dippikill Wilderness Retreat Center for nine years.  She expanded from working with clay to working with soil and became a registered Master Gardener; she was an Estate Gardener prior to becoming a swim coach at the YMCA.  Not surprisingly, her three children all swim. 

When she returned to competitive swimming, after being out of the pool for ten years, she became a competitive age-group swimmer again, but this time as an adult swimmer.  Dennie has been a top finisher in many local races,  She is a 4 time All-American champion in the 2-mile cable open water distance and setting an Adirondack record in the 50-Freesystle and 1650. She has earned national top ten times in Freestyle for the 1650 Free, 1,000 Free, 50 Backstroke, and 200 Backstroke (yards and meters). 

Her coaching has attracted national attention too; she won the 2011 Kerry O’Brien award from US Masters Swimming for “building membership in communities across the country” and wrote an article for the American Swim Coaches Association Newsletter: “Motivating the New Masters Swimmer.”

In 2016 her relay team broke the record for swimming the length of Lake George in 13:07.07. 

Emma Bonan Assistant Coach, Green Group

Emma is a Glens Falls native who swam both for Gators and the High School team. She continued swimming in College at Clarkson University specializing in mid distance freestyle. After college she continued coaching at Clarkson University and later at Niagara University. She is excited to return to the Gators this season and to develop and teach swimmers in a sport that she loves.

 

Nicholas Weigand Assistant Coach, Green Group

Coach Nick has been involved with swimming since 2001 swimming Modified and Varsity in Lancaster NY. He swam at for four years at Buffalo State where he specialized in the 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free, and 800 Free relay. He has been a lifeguard and swim instructor since 2003. He has coached for several teams including the Depew boys and girls varsity teams. 

In Virginia he coached for Williamsburg Aquatic Club and Jamestown High School from 2016-2018. At Jamestown during that time the girls won the state championship each year.  

He has been with the Gators since 2018.  Coaching all groups and swimming for the Master's team.  This year he is also coaching the triathlon team

He graduated Buff State with a bachelors degree in social studies education and a Masters in Educational technology.  He currently lives in Queensbury and teaches at Queensbury Middle School.

Ted Rudel Assistant Coach, Gold Group

Coach Ted enters his 2st year with the Gators as Coach of the Gold group. He comes to us after having being the lead coach for the Gray group of the Madison Area (NJ) YMCA, a group of approximately 50 boys and girls aged 10-13.

Coach Ted is a lifelong swimmer, having swum competitively thru 4 years of college at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He has 2 grown children, who were also competitive swimmers. For the past 3 summers, he has swum with Coach Dennie and the Masters Team at Glens Falls Y.

Coach Ted and his wife, Ellen, have recently relocated full time to their summer home of 30 years in Lake George.

Kristin Felton Assistant Coach, Gatorades

Kristin Felton swam for the Glens Falls Gators when she was eight years old and then continued her swim career at SUNY Potsdam. Kristin returned in September 2022, to begin her first year as a Gators Swim Coach. She strives to motivate her athletes to work hard to become a better swimmer. Kristin enjoys spending time with her fiance, friends, family and two dogs, Misha and Scout. Swimming is a unique sport, not only is it an individual sport but as well as a team sport. Kristin is looking forward to another great season with the Glens Falls Gators.
