Summer Celebration Lived Up to its Name

Luke Modrak

Thanks to everyone who participated in our annual Summer Celebration meet over the weekend! Despite the heat at even such early hours, we were able to host 26 clubs and over 540 athletes (that’s half the clubs in AMS)… and still, we were able to finish each day ahead of the projected timeline and were able to exit before the pool opened for regular hours. It was also a great learning experience as we implemented chase starts, something new to most – and while it went smoothly, we learned a few things to create some best practices for the future. It’s crazy to think it would work at an age group meet, but nothing says “swim faster” like the next heat racing closely behind you…

Special shout-outs to the following:

> Our Officiating crew did an outstanding job keeping our meet moving and were diligent in their observations

> Our Meet Ref Christie Newcamp and our AOs Chuck Kaminski and John Bissell for spending some extra time in the sun closing out our meet with the recon process as we experienced some Dak and timer errors

> PTSC for some Dak module loaners which enabled us to run the meet as designed

> All of our MLAC meet workers – parents, grandparents, siblings, current swimmers… - everyone showed and we had every worker slot filled! Many hands make any meet possible, let alone one at this scale and in this crazy heat… and it was great to see what happens when we do not have to scramble

> The MLAC coaches for stepping up to load / unload equipment to / from the HS and setting up the night before and in the early mornings

> Michael, Rinzen, Noah, Rosie, William, and the rest of our Sharks / Rec Guards for their help in setting up each day

> The Rec Guards for their attentiveness all weekend

> Coach Abbie for completing her Meet Director internship and being the swiss army knife all weekend

> The Piranhas coaches for their manpower support and helping our kids get ready for their races

> Coach Donati and Coach Lauren for their organizational support
