 Mt. Pleasant Aqua Club (MPAC)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Are meets required?

A: Absolutely! MPAC is a competitive swim team. By joining Mt. Pleasant Aqua Club, you are joining a completive swim team. We are not swim lessons or just workouts times.  You would not sign up for soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. and say “We will just do practices and not the games.”

Q: Is there an age limit to join MPAC?

A: Yes, the athlete must by at least 5 years old.  The swimmer also must be capable of swimming one length freestyle of a 25 yard pool and be comfortable standing in the 3 ft shallow end. If you are unsure a coach can do a simple evaluation at the pool.

Q: When can new swimmers join MPAC?

A: New swimmers may join MPAC during the registration period of the season.  A coach will then assess the swimmer's skills for group placement.

Q: Do swimmers need to wear a cap and goggles during practice and meets?

A: It is recommended that all swimmers wear a basic cap at practice. Girls with longer hair are required to wear a practice cap. Chlorine will damage all hair so protect it as best you can with a cap.

Goggles are required at meets and practice.

Q: How will you determine the group in which my child should practice?

A: The primary determining factor is swimming ability.  It is not good for swimmers to participate in groups for which they are not yet ready.  Placement is determined by the MPAC coaching staff.

Q: Does the swimmer need to attend every practice?

A: Practice attendance is not required.  It is offered 4 days a week and you decide what days will fit your schedule.  We understand swimmers to have multiple interests and cannot attend every practice.  That being said, it is important to remember that your child will get out of swimming what they put into it.

Q: Does the swimmer need to attend every meet?

A:  There is a 2 meet minimum requirement for each session.   Meet attendance is strongly encouraged as means to measure the swimmer's progress.  Every time a swimmer races, they have an opportunity to perform a personal best time.  We measure progress by comparing your child to what they previously have done. We award Best Time ribbons after each meet.
