  • For dryland practice please wear a T-shirt/shorts and tennis shoes, be prepared for both indoor and outdoor workouts depending on the weather.
    • Dryland will be M/W/F from 5:00-5:30pm by invite through coach only
      • Please do not attend dry land practice if your swimmer has not attended previously.  Coaches will notify the swimmer when they are eligible to join the dryland program.

 

Red Group - This group is designed to support swimmers who are able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently for at least 25 yards. This group is for swimmers who are moving from the Sea Puppy group. Swimmers in this group will have the opportunity to practice up to four days a week for 45 minutes. In the Red Group, swimmers will be introduced to all four competitive swimming strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle). The goal for swimmers in this group is to be able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently for at least 50 yards and swim butterfly and breaststroke independently for at least 25 yards. Swimmers in the Red Group are encouraged to attend swim meets and compete.


Blue Group - This group is designed to support swimmers who are able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently for at least 50 yards. This group is for swimmers who are moving from the Red Group. Swimmers in this group will have the opportunity to practice up to four days a week for 60 minutes. In the Blue Group, swimmers will continue to improve all four competitive swimming strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle). The goal for swimmers in this group is to be able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently for at least 100 yards and swim butterfly and breaststroke independently for at least 50 yards. Another goal for swimmers in this group is to be able to swim a 100 IM independently and demonstrate proper flip turns and transition turns. Swimmers in the Blue Group are highly encouraged to attend swim meets and compete.


White Group - This group is designed to support swimmers who are able to swim all four competitive swimming strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle) independently. Swimmers in this group are able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently for at least 100 yards and butterfly and breaststroke independently for at least 50 yards. This group is for swimmers who are moving from the Blue Group. 
Swimmers in this group will have the opportunity to practice up to four days a week for 60 minutes. In the White Group, swimmers will continue to improve all four competitive swimming strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle). The goal for swimmers in this group is to be able to swim freestyle and backstroke independently for at least 200 yards and swim butterfly and breaststroke ​independently for at least 100 yards. Another goal for swimmers in this group is to be able to swim a 200 IM independently and continue to demonstrate proper flip turns and transition turns. Swimmers in the White Group are highly encouraged to attend swim meets and compete.


*The racing start progression (Sitting, Kneeling, Compact, Stride, and Shallow Start) will be covered in each of the developmental groups. As swimmers master each step, the next step in the racing starts progression will be introduced.

 

Age Group Level- The focus for this group is for swimmers to become competitive swimmers. Age range for this group is 9-13. Swimmers will refine all four strokes as well as building endurance and competitive swimming skills. Swimmers are required to attend three 90-120 minute practices a week.

The Age Group Level practices will introduce some new elements into the practice routine. Dry land exercise and stretching will be added in addition to increased pool time. Age Group level places a major emphasis on stroke, diving, and flip turn techniques. Yardage (2,000-4,000) will be increased, and timed sets will be standard and gradually increased.  Swimmers will be encouraged to set goals for the end of season AMS championship meet. Swimmers will also attend coaches meetings to go over their times and their goals. Swimmers will be encouraged to set goals for the end of season AMS championship meet. 

 

Junior and Senior Level-The focus for this group is for swimmers is high level competition and aerobic development. Age range for this group is 11-18

Junior and Senior Level is the highest level of the Shaler Area Swim Club program. These swimmers will have refined their swimming ability to the point that they will be able to focus primarily on yardage. Yardage will be increased (4,000-7,000), starting to emphasize conditioning. Timed sets will become more demanding and the swimmers will need to show a tolerance for the increased practice yardage and length of the practice session.  Swimmers will be encouraged to set goals for the every meet and will have long term goals set for the end of season championship meet. Swimmers will also attend coaches meetings to go over their times and their goals.
