What is the Seneca Valley Swim Club?

The Seneca Valley Swim Club is a year-long swim club that offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of SVSC to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of their abilities.  Click Here to read more about the competitive swim groups for swimmers ages 6 to 18.

What should I expect at the evaluation?

The evaluation will take approximately 15 minutes.  The coaches will assess your swimmer’s ability and recommend the proper swim group placement.

If your swimmer is not quite ready for competitive swim groups, we offer swim lessons and an introduction to competitive swimming group.  Click here to learn more about our learn-to-swim programs for swimmers ages 4+.

When is the season?

Our season begins on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, and ends on or around August 1, 2024.  We traditionally break for 2-3 weeks at the end of March and/or beginning of April and we also break in August which equates to approximately 10 months of swimming.

Where and when are practices?

SVSC practices at the new SV Aquatic Center on the Seneca Valley secondary campus.  Practices are in the evenings during the school year.  Practices are in the mornings during the summer.  Practice start times, duration of each practice, and number of practices each week varies based on swim group. The fall/winter practice schedule will be posted on our website soon.

My swimmer participates in other activities and cannot attend all the practices.  Is that a problem?

We encourage the swimmers to attend as many practices as possible but understand that swimmers are involved in other activities and cannot attend every practice.  We expect swimmers to meet the following attendance requirements:

Gold - 4 practices a week

Silver - 3 practices a week

Bronze - 3 practices a week

Novice - 2 practices a week

Junior - 3 practices over 2 weeks

Where and when are the meets?

Meets are generally local, in the Pittsburgh area.  We encourage swimmers to participate in meets but attendance at all meets is not mandatory.  Plan to attend an average of one meet per month.  They are held on the weekends (both Saturday and Sunday).  We attend a couple of travel meets per year, usually in Ohio or West Virginia.

Will my swimmer be in the same group all year?

Not necessarily.  Coaches promote swimmers to the next swim group when they are ready.

Who are the coaches?

We have three excellent coaches.  You can read more about them here.

What are the fees?

What equipment does my swimmer need?

Do you accept swimmers from outside the Seneca Valley School District?

Yes, but preference is given to in-district swimmers.  Out of district swimmers are accepted if spots are available in their recommended swim group.

Are there volunteer requirements?

SVSC expects to host 2-3 meets per year at the SV Aquatic Facility.  Families are required to volunteer for 2-3 sessions at each SVSC hosted meet.  A $250 fee is assessed to each family for each volunteer requirement that is not met.

I don’t know anything about swimming.  Is there someone that can help us with questions after we register?

Yes, you will be assigned an experienced parent mentor to answer questions and guide you through your first year with SVSC.   We also hold a kick-off meeting and a new parent meeting at the beginning of the season.  You are also encouraged to reach out to your mentor, coaches and board members with questions at any time.
