Hammerheads
The Hammerhead group is the most beginner group in the Northwest Arkansas Aquatics program. The base requirement to be in this group is each swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards of 3 of the 4 strokes: freestyle, backstroke, and at least one of butterfly or breaststroke.
The focus of this group is for the swimmers to learn the basic skills for all four competitive strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Streamline push-offs, body position, head position, and the kick will be the emphasis as the actual mechanics behind the stroke itself will be focused more in the Great White group and up.
The Hammerheads will also learn the basic skills associated with starts, turns, and finishes for all four strokes.
Swimmers in the Hammerhead group will range in ages of 5-10 and is the most broad spectrum of age within our program. It is our goal for the older swimmers to move up as soon as they demonstrate proficiency in streamline push-offs, body position, head position, and kick in all four of the competitive strokes.
Move-ups will be communicated prior to the start of the short course or long course seasons; however, there may be some cases where a move mid-season is determined to be necessary by the coaching staff.
