Age Group 1

AG1 had a great start to the SCY season, with many best times and strong swims. The two events that nearly 100% of our swimmers dropped immense time in are the 200 IM and 500 Free, which tells me we have a group of athletes who know how to work hard every practice. One of the racing components I noticed was our ability to stick to a race strategy, this is a direct result of focus and accountability in practice. I mentioned this quote from Kobe Bryant to our swimmers, “it’s not about the number of hours you practice, but the number of hours you are present at practice." This is the best way to find success and personal achievement. Something that came up multiple times is that swimmers tell me they are sprinters or they don’t swim in certain events, this is a closed mindset that I hope I can redirect to a more open-minded one. The biggest lesson we can learn in these “off-events” is how to move our body through the water in all strokes, a skill that helps all levels of swimmers. Let’s keep the hard work going!
