Swimmer of the Month for May

The AG1 swimmer of the month for May is Bennet Kelly. Bennet moved up groups at the beginning of the LC season and never looked back. He and a few others had over 95% attendance, but Bennet stood out because of his willingness to learn. One of my philosophies in swimming, when you learn how to master your "weakest" stroke/event, you open the door for learning that can be applied to your "best" stroke/event. Bennet is a leader of this practice and is setting himself up to be a lifelong learner. Bennet is now ranked top 10 in the state in over 8 events, including strokes we would consider still in development. Keep up the killer focus and great attitude, Bennet! 

Starlight Meet Wrap-up

Starlight 

Great racing this weekend. Many of us struggled in the first session. Whether it was eating enough, staying hydrated, or just plain staying awake and ready. We rose to the level that was being asked to achieve new State and Regional times. We did a fantastic job of taking our focus and skills from practice and using them in each race. As we gear up for more stressful meets and more pressure, from yourself or others, the race stays the same. The tasks remain the same. The race strategy stays the same. The only thing that changes is how you think of yourself and what you think of in those vulnerable moments. Is it the fear of the third 50, or is it the detail you know might fall apart at that moment and how to maintain it? Our group has shown me, time and time again, that we hold the power to slow everything down and make sure our words and actions have razor thin separation.
