Senior Two and Three December Meet Wrap-ups

Senior 2 and Senior 3 did a great job this long weekend at Candy Cane Classic in Phoenix! There was a lot of fast swimming. Senior 3 swimmers showed up and raced with a new/best time in almost all events! I will usually say that a good race is a boring race, only because the swimmers have rehearsed speed, technique, and effort so much that the race itself isn’t anything out of expectation, which happened for many of the races that popped off. 

Bruss’s 500 comes to mind, he didn’t outwardly train it but swam at consistent speeds and dropped 20 seconds from a 2-year-old time. Alex Yu had a great 100 backstroke in the morning. Ben dropped time in his 100 and 200 freestyle events and achieved his best 200 IM time for club in both prelims and finals. Tye dropped in almost all his times from club. Hadley is steadily dropping in everything, and is within 1% of sectional qualification times in not one, or two events, but six! She also raced coming back from Tualatin, which she did great as well!

Elena had a total of 11 races at the best time; it was an awesome weekend for her! Jayden Bui dropped a chunk of time from his high school times. Jayden Cheuk also dropped or achieved best times in everything, exceeding his own expectations in the 50 free. Tristan raced the 100 breast in prelims and finals, and dropped 2 seconds in the morning, then two more in finals! Oliver Tham is still dropping time in his 100 breast! And Alex Barton stepped up and raced four PB club times!

Even if a race did not quite hit where we wanted, swimmers were taking away ideas and concepts to continue to workshop in practices. Its important to seek feedback and input from coaches, because it does give points of improvement at the high-end of exertion. It was a long weekend, but swimmers kept stepping up for some strong races.

​Tualatin Invite:

Senior 2 rocked the Tualatin Hills Holliday Classic! There were some outstanding swims by many of the swimmers! Swimmers received and applied feedback from preliminary to finals swims, and rocked the weekend with fast prelim times and improvements on those in the evening.

Delany dropped 1.2sec in the 200 free to get a new Sectional qualification time! She is also within striking distance of the 100 free! Joselyn dropped .85sec to get a SCY 200 Breast sectional cut! In the 1650 she dropped 6sec and is now 5sec away from a sectional cut. Hadley dropped over 12sec in her 500 free to settle right on the brink of the 500free sectional cut. Cullen had some wicked fast swims, dropping a cumulative of 15.03 percent in his swims.

Congratulations to everyone who competed, it was exciting to see the fast swimming. It was valuable exposure to travel prelim/finals format of meets.
