S1 January Meet Wrap-up
Lots were entered in races we haven’t competed in a while. I saw so much technical improvement and awareness. From breaststroke kicks, to turns, to closing races, and touching out people at the end. If it makes you feel good, confident, and strong, that is success.
This was the first club meet in 3-4 months that we did not wear tech suits. That shed light on a few things; some good, some not so good!
The training leading up to this meet was getting us prepped for races. Not to be goal times in those races. I hope we can all look back and see that in the process leading up to the first day of competition. There was a section of people who competed Friday night and had a 5 am morning workout. It's not about the time, it’s about the intent.
Before the meet, I tried to make it clear that the final time was not the objective. It should not be the objective year-round. Unfortunately for humans, growth isn’t a straight line; expecting “age group’ time drops is unreasonable. I wanted to watch you all compete. Some of us are so far ahead of the competition that THEY NEED the tech suits to have a chance against us. That’s what I wanted. I wanted you all to execute well-swum races. Many of us achieved that at least once!
Are you willing to learn when you get dealt adversity? Can you refocus when you get frustrated? You are all young in this world, inexperienced in stagnation, hungry for the high of success. That happens every day. Not twice a year when we rest.

- Alexa 100 Free - controlled first 25, competitive last 75
