Coaches
Kylie grew up in Colorado and has been playing volleyball for 12 years, beginning when she was just 10 years old. She began playing competitive volleyball at age 12, starting her volleyball career as a whopping 5'4 middle blocker. Kylie has played nearly every position on the court and continued her volleyball career as a setter for the women's club volleyball team during her time at NAU. She now plays in competitive adult indoor volleyball and sand volleyball leagues and tournaments. Kylie has been with Ascent for three years, two as a head coach and coached one varsity season at BASIS Flagstaff in 2023. She will soon be a certified strength and conditioning specialist and is a major advocate for injury prevention and excelling athletes both on the court and in the gym!
Kylie has been with Ascent since 2020, and is currently the head coach of the 2023-2024 13 Black team. She's comfortable leading lessons with any age group, skill level or volleyball skill.
Coach Andrew Guthrie has coached at multiple levels from middle school through NAU club teams. He started the boys volleyball program at Seton Catholic High School in Chandler and helped on two different state championship teams. He has experience coaching boys and girls high school volleyball. As a player, Coach Andrew had the opportunity to play all positions. With that experience of playing all positions, he have the ability to help all players in any position further develop their skills in any aspect of volleyball.
Andrew is currently the head coach of the 2023-2024 Ascent 14 Mint team, and is comfortable instructing serving, hitting, setting, blocking, pin hitting and middle blockers.
Kayla was raised in Flagstaff and attended Coconino High School. She played volleyball all throughout high school as a setter and graduated in 2020. She recently graduated from NAU in 2023 with a degree in Business Management. Kayla has been coaching with Ascent since 2020, head and assistant coaching 12U and 13U. In the fall of 2023, Kayla assisted with the JV Volleyball team at Coconino High School. Kayla loves to coach skills like setting, serving, passing, and defense. She loves to fine tune fundamentals and skills as well as provide beginners with a strong foundation.
Kayla is currently the head coach of the 2023-2024 12 Black team. She's comfortable leading any skill for 12-14-year-old players.

Alea is currently the assistant coach of the 2023-2024 Ascent 15 White team, and is comfortable instructing serving, hitting, blocking and middle blockers.

Coach Lapsley is currently the assistant coach of the 2023-2024 Ascent 17 Black team, and is comfortable instructing defense, passing, hitting, blocking, pin hitting and middle blockers. Coach Lapsley is also well-versed in strength and conditioning and jump mechanics.
Kelci has been playing volleyball for 23 years. She grew up on O’ahu, Hawai’i where she began her volleyball career indoor since the age of 6 and sand since the age of 9. This is Kelci’s second year as a coach for Ascent, with previous voluntary experience assisting her college men’s club team. Prior to coaching, she was a four-year varsity player at a very successful and competitive program at Kamehameha schools. She is a three-time state champion and earned All-State setter for Hawai’i her sophomore year (Fall 2009). Kelci continued her volleyball career as a Freshmen starting setter then finishing her career as a libero/DS at Humboldt State University in California. She was one of the top 5 leaders in aces and digs in her conference. Kelci specializes in setting and passing/defense, but could also assist with hitting (all levels). She has a huge passion for coaches and teaching the sport she loves!
Kelci has been with Ascent since 2022, and is currently the assistant coach of the 2023-2024 15 Black team.

Kage has experience playing indoor men's volleyball throughout his high school career. He's in his inaugural season as an Ascent coach. He is the assistant for the 16 Black team. He is comfortable instructing defense and serve receive for any players.
Taylor loves volleyball. She played volleyball at Northern Arizona University from 2011-2015 before beginning her coaching career in 2016. She has coached all youth levels (12-18-years-old) and both girls and boys volleyball. Although she played middle blocker, opposite hitter and outside hitter at NAU during her college career, she also has some experience setting and playing backrow defensive specialist. If you're interested in private lessons, she's comfortable and confident instructing any age group and any skill.
Taylor is also the Assistant Director of Ascent Volleyball Club and the head coach of the 2023-2024 15 Black team. She's been with Ascent since the fall of 2020.
Serena demonstrates an innate talent for coaching ideal body mechanics suited for long-term player success. She is creative in her drill design, thinks outside the box, and brings a fresh perspective to coaching that resonates with today’s players. Furthermore, she is a highly effective coach in that she is able to communicate complex volleyball movements in an easy to digest format for young players. Serena is CAP 1 certified and excited to impact as many players as possible with her passion for the sport.
Serena is a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s of Science interior design. While attending NAU, Serena competed as a middle blocker for NAU’s Women’s Volleyball Club team. Her team not only competed at national qualifying tournaments but earned bids each year of her time at NAU. Serena began her volleyball career at Orme School of Arizona as a freshman on varsity and finished at Bradshaw Mountain High School as their varsity team's middle blocker. Serena also competed on Mile High Volleyball Club as a right side and outside hitter.
Serena is also the Director of Ascent Volleyball Club and the head coach of the 2023-2024 15 Mint team.
