Aqualaps Updates
Hello GSC families,
There is a lot of Aqualaps information in this email - so get yourself a cup of coffee and read it all the way through!
There is just about one week left of the Corporate Sponsor Drive PHASE 1.
Reminders about this phase: this is for members who have a family or employment relationship with a business. You must either be related to or working for a business to claim that business in phase 1. Please email Julie Bednarski at [email protected] to tell her which business you are claiming and to ask for a personalized letter with which to approach the business.
You have until February 16th to reach out to Julie to claim these businesses - otherwise you risk losing the business to a different family in phase 2 or 3. You don’t need to approach the business before February 16th, but you do need to tell Julie that you plan to before that February 16th deadline. After that, we can’t guarantee the business won’t be given to another family.
Aqualaps Dates:
Feb 16th - Corporate Drive Phase 2 kick off - this is for those who have previously claimed businesses that they want to approach again this year. Please don’t email Julie about these until phase 2 officially starts on Feb 16th. After that, it’s game on.
March 7 - Aqualaps Kick Off Time Trial and Pizza Party - Join us for this fun time trial and pizza party! Parents, bring your swimsuits to join your swimmers for family relays and open swim time at the conclusion of the time trial! I’ll be in the event room during warm-ups to talk to parents about all things Aqualaps. There will be NO PACKETS this year, but all the papers - such as information brochures, pledge turn-in forms, tax receipts - will be available for any who would like to take some home. This is also when Phase 3 of the Corporate Drive kicks off, so I will have a list of all unclaimed businesses available at the time trial for your perusal on a first come, first serve basis.
April 18th - Litter Pick-Up Day - As a thank-you to the community, we pitch in to help pick up litter as a team. Please mark your calendars to join us for this event from 9-10:30! Volunteers will be needed.
May 3 - Aqualaps Swim Day - This is the culmination of our fundraiser during which swimmers complete the required number of laps for their group. More information on this will be posted on the event page later on. Yes, this is a Sunday and is not a typo. I know Sunday morning is not ideal, but it was deemed the best we could do so as not to take up so much AGB pool time while DPAC is closed for their annual maintenance. A make-up day will be scheduled later with Coach Daemon for those who cannot come to the May 3rd date.
Volunteer Needs:
Pledge Collectors: These helpful folks hang out in the pool lobby during practice to receive and document pledges turned in by swimmers. It is a very easy job and a great way to earn volunteer hours if you’re going to be the at the pool anyway. Please sign up under the Aqualaps Volunteer Opportunities page or contact our pledge collector coordinators.
AGB coordinator: Clarabelle Savikko (907-209-2199)
DPAC coordinator: Susil Mateo (907-209-2423)
Time Trial Help: Please check out the open jobs under the Aqualaps Time Trial event page. I especially need helpers to step in to manage the pizza party. We also need timers and deck officials.
I have heard we have some new cohos on the team and I know this information can be super overwhelming for new families. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions!
See you around the pool!
