Coaches and Directors
Coach Daemon Vargas joined GSC as Head Coach November 2025. He
is a lifelong aquatic
athlete and career coach who, prior to coming to Juneau, served as
an Age Group Swim Coach
with Quicksilver Swimming in San Jose, California, where he was
responsible for planning and
implementing specific technique instruction and progressive
training. Daemon has been
coaching swimming across all age groups since 2014 and instructing
lessons and pre-comp since
2009. When he's not at the pool, Coach Daemon spends most
of his time raising his young
children River and Nihilus with his wife, Polaris
Corinne joined GSC as the head Dryland Coach in 2018. Corinne
has an extensive background in
strength and conditioning. She is a certified CrossFit Level 1
coach, CrossFit Weightlifting and
CrossFit Kids coach. In 2022, she became SURGE Strength Dryland
Certified and worked for 2
years virtually dryland coaching national and international
individuals and teams for SURGE
Strength. Corinne is passionate about strength training and
fitness, and discovered her love of
coaching young athletes when she joined the GSC team. Corinne moved
into the Administrative
Assistant position in 2023.
Outside of GSC, Corinne has run a successful practice as a Licensed
Massage Therapist for over
20 years. She has participated and competed in a variety of sports
including Volleyball, CrossFit,
Half Marathons and, most recently, Triathlons, including two Half
IronMan Triathlons.
Lisa has been a GSC coach since 2007. She has been associated with GSC since fall of 1998, when Kristin (daughter) joined team. Kristin swam four years with JDHS, went on to swim at Northern Arizona University, coached a year at GSC and is now an active open water competitor. Trevor (son) joined team in June 2003 and swam four years with TMHS. Lisa was a competitive swimmer for 10 years in Georgia. She has taught swimming on and off for the past 30 something years.
Lisa enjoys coaching and teaching swimming because the kid's enthusiasim for being in the water and learning new skills is a joy to be a part of. Helping kids to learn, improve their strokes and be part of a team is highly rewarding. Lisa is thrilled to have the opportunity to coach GSC swimmers and be a part of the GSC family. Lisa is also a USMS Coach and a Red Cross WSI Instructor with CBJ.
Lisa works part-time with Juneau School District. She also has two adult sons living in Juneau and two dogs to keep exercised. Lisa does manage to get in the pool to swim a few laps every now and then.
Seth has been involved with Glacier Swim Club since 2000. He
swam on the team from 2000-
2010 and then received a swimming scholarship to Minnesota State
University - Mankato. He
swam there for one year before the Men's team was
discontinued due to budget cuts. He
returned to Juneau shortly after and started coaching in the summer
of 2013 for both Glacier
Swim Club and the Juneau-Douglas High School Swim/Dive Team. He was
the assistant at JDHS
from 2013-2014 and then the Head Coach between 2015-2023. During
his time there, the girls’
team won the State title three times and was the runner up twice.
He coached GSC from 2013-
2017 but continued to have close connections with the team through
JDHS and working at the
pool. He returned to coaching with GSC in 2022 and is currently the
lead coach for the Shark
group.
Seth works full time for the City & Borough of Juneau as
the supervisor of the Dimond Park
Aquatic Center. He enjoys the outdoors, boating, camping, watching
sports, and spending time
at his family's remote property near St. James Bay. Glacier
Swim Club and its coaches were a big
part of his life growing up and he hopes he can provide the same
positive experiences for new
generations of competitive swimmers.
Coach Devinn is a personal trainer and swim coach known for her
positive, encouraging
approach to fitness. She moved to North Pole, Alaska, in 2003 to
begin her career as a PE
teacher, which soon led her to coaching with the North Pole Aquatic
Club from 2004 to 2014.
During her time with the club, Devinn worked her way from assistant
coach to head coach, all
while taking time off to welcome her three wonderful daughters.
When she’s not creating personalized training programs or
working with swimmers, Devinn
enjoys exploring Alaska’s natural beauty through camping,
hiking, and spending time outdoors.
Her passion for fitness, teaching, and the Alaskan lifestyle
continues to shape her coaching
today.
Scott has been part of the GSC coaching staff since 2004,
including Head Coach for 21
years. Prior to coming to Juneau, Scott served as the Head Coach
and Aquatics Director for the
Waynesboro Family YMCA in Virginia. He was awarded Alaska
Senior Coach of the Year in 2006,
2007, and 2009. He was awarded Alaska Age Group Coach of the
Year in 2011 and 2020. Scott
has also served on the Alaska Swimming Board of Directors in the
following positions: Sr Coach
Rep, Legislative Chair, Admin Vice Chair, Age Group Chair,
Technical Planning Chair, and Senior
Vice Chair.
Scott and his wife, Sarah, have a son, William, and a daughter,
Sophie.
Jan started coaching GSC in 1994 when she moved to Juneau to go to graduate school. She took a 3 year break 7 years ago and came back to the team in 2007. She coached the Juneau Douglas High School Swim team in for 6 years. Before moving to Juneau, she coached at Skyview High School for 2 years and with the Southcentral Sea Serpents for 2 years, both in Soldotna. She has been coaching Masters swimming since 1991.
Jan has been swimming since she was five and competed in a recreational league from 6-16. She swam and competed in the Masters category but now swims for fitness 3 days a week all year. Jan’s most noted achievement as an adult swimmer was swimming with Steve Vick (Haines coach) in Lynn Canal, 3 days in a row for up to 2.5 hours at time. Also, she won the USMS 3,000 yard national race for her age group one year.
She lives with her boyfriend Tim and three cats on Douglas Island. She is a Fisheries Biologist for ADF&G, SCUBA diving most of the summer conducting stock assessment surveys for urchins, geoducks, and sea cucumbers.
