Tech Suits
Swimsuits come in different materials and are constructed with different methods. USA Swimming has placed restrictions on what suits can be worn and when.
True “tech” suits are made of materials that compress the body and have bonded seams. Only those 13 and older can wear them in competition. They are quite expensive with women’s suits costing as much as $800. They can be identified by a stamp indicating that they are “Fina Approved”. We only recommend them for those competing at the 13 and 14 age group championship level and above.
The swimsuit manufacturers have developed a suit that they call a “tech suit” for 12 and Unders that has a few of the characteristics of the elite suits and may offer a slight advantage. These suits will have the “Fina Approved” stamp with a green check mark on it. While less expensive than the elite tech suits, they are still more expensive than regular suits and are also only worn in competition. We only recommend these suits for those competing in the 10 and Under and 11 and 12 age group championships and above.
