Winterfest Meet Report

Hello all,

This past weekend 28 swimmers made the cross-border trek to take on the Grande Prairie Piranhas in a one day dual meet. Ages 7 to 16, Inconnu swimmers competed across a myriad of strokes and distances, all 400m or under.

This was the second meet in Grande Prairie that Fort St. John has been to this season and first of the new year. This meet was a little different than the previous as the pool was setup to 50m (Long Course) as compared to our home pool 25m setup. This changes the impact that some of the swimmers possess due to their advantages and disadvantages. A swimmer that has good skills like turns and underwater kick won’t be able to utilize them as much in the longer pool, or a swimmer with efficient technique will be better able to sustain their rate compared to others.  However, for all it was a good experience to race and swim in a changed format; for some it was the first time in a few years, for other’s it was the first time ever. More and more meets will be switching to Long Course as we head into the Spring and Summer months.

By the end of the day 9 Inconnu swimmers walked away with 14 race wins within their age group. Other achievements included 5 swimmers, Julien Kemp, Rylan Pomeroy, Ethan Scoullar, Mya Waberski, Frankie Woods, qualifying for more races at Northern & Interior Divisionals and one swimmer, Ryder Modde, achieving their first ever Provincial Standard.
