Edmonton Open Meet Report

Josh Sorensen

This past weekend, Feb 4-6th, Owen Lang and Alex McDonald made the trip down to Edmonton to compete in one of the Alberta Provincial Series Meets. Swimmers from across Canada came to compete, including teams from Manitoba and Quebec, who brought Jr. and Sr. National Team members with them.

For Owen and Alex this meet was about continuing to gain long course experience while racing some events that they may not typically enter. Both stepped up the the challenge with great attitudes as Owen walked away with 5 lifetime best swims along with 4 Finals races. Owen focused mainly on Breaststroke swimming, and getting into finals, across all three distances. Alex followed up with 5 best times of his own and 3 finals races. Alex had an array of events, swimming at least one individual event in all 4 strokes and the IM.

Next up for these two boys will be the BC Winter Provincials held in Victoria from March 10-13th. This is the premier swim meet for BC this winter cycle as the best in the province make the trip down south to compete.

The club's next meet is down in Penticton from Feb 25-27th where some swimmers have qualified to compete at the Northern & Interior Divisional Championships. There swimmers will be looking to hit their peak form with some hoping to qualify and move on to the aforementioned Winter Provincials.
