GHAC MEET Sheet - Hall of Fame

Hall Of Fame Meet Sheet!

After only 4 weeks in the pool the GHAC team
attended their inaugural meet for the 2022/2023
season in Etobicoke (Hall of Fame.)

We had 48 swimmers representing the Senior, Junior and Development groups
totalling 241 races.

There were no expectations of performance. No intentional race plans were
developed It was “just go out as hard as you can.”

The coaches goal/strategy was to determine the current fitness level of the
athletes which will aid in creating strategies for the Border City meet in Windsor
(December 2-4.)

Who would have imagined that 138 best times would be realized. Quite a feat
considering the entry times were converted from the swimmers best long course
times. Congratulations swimmers.

The coaches had sent the athletes out to race with different objectives in mind.

The Senior group were to focus on their body position in the water with high hips
and feet with good transitions.

The Junior/Development groups focus was their streamline coupled with good
stroke techniques.

Here are some to the takeaways for both coaches and athletes
• Swimmers performance was unexpected which is exciting.
• We are ready for the next phase of training,
• Continue to build a strong aerobic base.
• Maintain focus on skills ie. transitioning off walls especially during the short
course season!

Below are some great quotes from the swimmers which are delightful and insightful

· 100 fly was more like a "75 fly, and 25 survive back to the wall”
· “GGGGGGGGG… H-A-C”
· My favourite thing at the meet was the positivity
· My take away from the meet is that I have to work harder on my turns
· I loved the loud cheering
· It was a lot of fun
· The meet gave me a good feel for where I am at
· I learned what I need to improve upon, and realized new strengths

Next steps
• Expectation for the Brantford meet is that we still want to go out fast
• Try to implement race pace within the longer events
• Identify where the athlete struggles to maintain the desired race pace
• Continue to evaluate fitness and training needs for the next phase
